Digital Learning Day!
From the Desk of Mr. Thomas
Dear Beacon Hill Families,
Digital Learning Day
Teachers have prepared assignments and made office hours for our upcoming digital learning day on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Students in grades 6-12 will have online learning opportunities only. Our BHMS students are already accustomed to completing assignments posted in Google Classroom. Students will have the opportunity to participate in online check-ins with their teachers via Google Meet if they need help. Office Hours for departments are:
Math/Science: 9:30 – 10:15
ELA/SS: 10:20 – 11:05
Connection/Electives/World Lang.: 11:10 – 11:55
Support Services Office Hours: 12:00 – 12:45
Here are the instructions provided for students to be successful in their digital learning day.
Join Us for Pizza with the Principals and Math Night!
We invite you to a special evening of learning and community on November 6th at our Pizza with the Principals and Math Night.
Enjoy pizza while you and your family learn valuable tips and strategies to support your child's math learning at home. Our Teaching and Learning Team will be on hand to provide guidance and answer your questions. We hope to see you there! This event is for all K-12 CSD families.
Rock Eagle Trip
Next week, our 7th graders will be embarking on their annual overnight adventure to Rock Eagle.
Please be aware that on November 6th and 7th, we will stage charter buses in front of our school both in the morning and afternoon. This may cause some traffic congestion and delays during arrival and dismissal times as we request car riders be dropped off on Adams Street and Kings Highway.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to ensure a smooth and safe experience for our students.
Best regards,
Derrick Thomas, Principal

Dr. Hirschorn Shines Bright
We're thrilled to announce that our amazing chorus director, Dr. Hirschorn, recently led the GMEA District 13 MS Honors Mixed Choir in Athens, Ga.! This is a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication to music education. The chorus at BHMS has also been busy creating beautiful sounds this October! Dr. Hirschorn conducted a stunning sixth grade treble concert, showcasing the incredible abilities of our young musicians. The sixth grade Cambiata chorus, along with our seventh and eighth graders also participated in a combined DHS chorus event, "Beautiful Spaces," a truly inspiring experience. We're excited to see what the future holds for our talented BHMS chorus!
Adventure Quest Steps Out of Comfort Zones at Panola Mountain
Students from all Adventure Quest classes recently embarked on an exciting field trip to Panola Mountain State Park. The day was filled with outdoor adventure as students hiked, tree climbed, and explored the park's rare ecosystem. The trip provided a unique opportunity for students to connect with nature and make lasting memories while challenging themselves outside their comfort zone.

From Our Safe Routes to School Committee…
For the next few weeks, Safe Routes to School (SRTS) will be promoting our Drop & Walk location at Agnes Scott College. We invite you to invest in safety and sanity by dropping your student a few blocks from BHMS so you can avoid the traffic, and they can walk the last steps to school.
On Monday, November 11, SRTS will be offering coffee and raffle tickets at the Drop & Walk location from 8 am to 8:30 am as we kick off Crossing Guard Appreciation Week, which runs through Friday, November 15.
Help Support the PBIS Store
The BHMS PBIS Store is open each Friday from now through the Thanksgiving break. We need volunteers for a 50-minute time slot during each grade’s lunch period. Can’t be on site to volunteer? Please consider donating treats to stock the store: https://bit.ly/PBIS-Store. We are in particular need of full-size candy boxes and candy bars. Have extras in your Halloween stash? Feel free to send them along!

STEP UP for Decatur Youth!
DEF was founded more than 20 years ago by a group of residents who wanted to ensure that EVERY student in CSD had what they needed to learn and thrive. Today, DEF's mission remains focused on Decatur's kids and educators, and we are still 100% reliant on the support of the Decatur community. DEF puts the community's contributions where they will have the biggest impact on our students, and DEF's Step Up Circle is a special group of supporters that allows us to operate programs like Lighten the Load, Teacher Innovation Grants, behavioral health support, arts programming, and so much more. There are also benefits - for both businesses and individuals - to joining DEF's Step Up Circle (beyond the warm and fuzzy feeling you get from supporting Decatur's kids!). Visit https://decatureducationfoundation.org/step-up-circle/ to learn more about the different giving levels.
