PRAYER DURING BLACK HISTORY MONTH
God of love and mercy, you call us to be your people. You give to us with your abundant grace. Make us holy people radiating the fullness of Your love. Help us to recognize our neighbours in everyone we meet, whatever the person’s colour, race, religion, culture or gender. Help us to share our love with all people even if they do not ask for it and even if they reject it.
Form us into a community of people who care, expressing your compassion. Remind us day after day of our baptismal call to serve, with joy and courage. Give us a deeper appreciation of the contributions that our brothers and sisters of all cultures have made to society and to the building of Your reign. Teach us how to grow in wisdom, grace and joy in Your presence.
Through Jesus and in Your spirit, we make this prayer.
Amen

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH
VIRTUE OF THE MONTH - RESPECT
In February we celebrate the virtue of respect. God has given us the virtues of friends and companions to keep us company and to help us out along the way. Every person in our lives carries the Spirit of God – and so every person is our brother or sister through Jesus Christ. As brothers and sisters who share one Holy Spirit, we are all valuable to God. We all deserve to be shown courtesy, consideration, sensitivity and thoughtfulness, which are different ways of saying respect. That respect should come first and foremost from ourselves. We have to respect ourselves and then we will be able to respect others. We should also expect to be treated with respect by everyone we meet – our brothers and sisters in Jesus. Through prayer and concentration, we can get better at respecting ourselves, as well as respecting those around us.
A respectful person…
· Treats himself/herself and everyone else with equal consideration and courtesy
· Uses a positive tone of voice and body language
· Avoids swearing, name-calling, put-downs, and inappropriate gestures
· Says “Excuse me”, “Please”, “Pardon me”
· Avoids gossip
Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations
Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectation - I am a Learner for Life
I AM A LEARNER FOR LIFE!
· I use my gifts and talents given to me by God
· I always do my best
· I build on my strengths and weaknesses
· I set goals
· I accept change
· I am proud of the good things I do
· I am thankful for the gifts of others
Because I am a learner for life, I can reach for my dreams, by living my life like Jesus.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
February is “Black History Month.” This is a time to celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians, who throughout history have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate and prosperous nation we know today. It is also an opportunity for the majority of Canadians to learn about the experiences of Black Canadians in our society and the vital role this community has played throughout our shared history. Throughout the month, we will share quotes and biographies of famous African American/ Canadians during our daily announcements. We will also hold liturgies, and numerous activities and presentations for staff and students all in honour of the ongoing contributions of Black Canadians!!
Please Join Us…
We will be gathering as a school community on Monday February 24th for our Virtues Assembly. We thank Ms. Policelli for organizing this faith filled event for our students and community.
Winter Walk Day - Wednesday February 5th
Winter Walk Day is a province-wide event held on the first Wednesday of February, celebrating the unique fun of walking and rolling to school when it’s snowy and cold outside. Celebrate all through the month of February, during Winter Walk Month!
Walking and rolling to school and around your neighbourhood is not just for warm weather. Active transportation is a great way to get exercise and socialize with friends all year long! Doing so in winter brings unique experiences.
Stay safe when you’re walking and rolling outside this winter. Here are some tips:
• Dress for the weather! Wear a jacket, hat, mitts, waterproof winter boots, and other gear to keep you warm and dry.
• Give yourself time! Sometimes walking in the snow and slush takes a bit longer. Leave for your school or destination 5 minutes early.
• Always be aware of vehicle traffic around you and especially in slippery conditions
February 6 - National Sweater Day
National Sweater Day is a WWF campaign that raises awareness around energy conservation. Saint Valentine

This day is connected with love because of the legend that birds pick their mates on February 14th. Secret notes of love and friendship sent on this day are called Saint Valentine’s notes or valentines. We will celebrate by wearing Pink, Red, White, and sharing positive messages creatively on Thursday February 13th. Please refrain from sending in any food items to share with classmates.
National Flag Day
February 15th, was declared National Flag of Canada Day in 1996. It marks when the maple leaf flag was first raised over Parliament Hill in Ottawa and indeed, hundreds of communities across Canada. One Stop Talk is a free service offering immediate access to mental health support, when and where it’s needed. This service is available to children, youth, and families across Ontario, providing culturally safe and appropriate therapy through a network of certified professionals from community-based child, youth, and family mental health agencies.
- Who can use it?
Children and youth under 18 years of age, as well as their parents/caregivers (who are welcome to connect alongside their child). - Language Support:
Interpretation services are available upon request.
Attendance and Punctuality
We ask that parents continue to support their children in their morning routines so that they can arrive to school on time. This ensures that your child learns an essential life skill, participates in the entire school day, and that disruptions to the learning environment are minimal.
COLD WEATHER SEASON
Appropriate Dress - Cold Weather
The days continue to be cold and wintry. We ask that students dress appropriately with coats, hats, gloves, mitts, boots, snow pants etc. If they are dressed warmly, they are better prepared to participate in outdoor activities during recess and the lunch hour. On extremely cold days, we limit the amount of time that students spend out of doors. We obtain our weather information from the Environment Canada Weather Information Line and follow School Board guidelines. Board Guidelines indicate that students will generally be outside for lunch and recess when temperatures do not fall below - 25 degrees Celsius, with the wind chill. With the exception of these occasions, all children will go out for recess and the lunch break. We remind all students to dress appropriately for the weather.
We ask all students to have indoor shoes. Please note that in the event of an emergency evacuation, students will not have the opportunity to put their boots on. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Extra Clothes for the Winter Season
Often during the winter season we have students, for various of reasons, coming to the office with wet clothes from playing outside during recess. We recommend, for the younger students, that you place an extra pair of pants, a shirt and socks in their back packs. This would help to avoid bothering parents at work when these situations occur. It is also recommended that students bring appropriate snow gear to school during these winter months (snowsuits, boots, gloves, mitts, hats).
Student Illness—Staying in During Recess
Cold and Flu season is upon us. We remind parents to please use discretion in keeping your children home to recover. A child who is too ill to go out for recess is too ill to be at school. Your co-operation to keep your child home when he/she is ill is greatly appreciated.

FAMILY DAY
Family Day is observed in the Canadian province of Ontario on the third Monday of February. This year Family Day is on Monday, February 17. This holiday celebrates the importance of families and family life to people and their communities. On Family Day, many people plan and take part in activities aimed at the whole family. These include watching movies, skating on outdoor ice rinks, playing board games and taking part in craft activities.
The Catholic Church welcomes the role of government in recognizing the rights and dignity of the family. Society can play particularly helpful roles in assisting parents in making decisions about the education of children, intergenerational support, and promoting the family’s responsibilities to society. The family is, “A community of life and love,” the late Pope John Paul II said, with the mission to communicate love, in a living reflection of and a real sharing in God’s love for humanity. It is within the family that virtues are taught and community values are learned.
We at Father Daniel Zanon wish you all a very Happy and Blessed Family Day.
MARCH BREAK 2025
March Break is from Monday, March 10 to Friday, March 14. The students return to school on Monday, March 17.

Catholic Ratepayers —Check Your Tax Bill To Ensure Proper Tax Support:
If you are a Catholic ratepayer, we urge you to check your property tax bill to ensure that your support is directed to your local Catholic school Board, in our case, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.
