From Your Principal
As we step into March, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and staff. The school year is moving quickly, and I am incredibly proud of all the progress we’ve made together.
This month brings exciting opportunities for learning, growth, and community engagement. With spring just around the corner, we encourage students to stay focused on their academic goals while also taking advantage of the many activities planned. From upcoming field trips, spirit days and special events, there is so much to look forward to!
March also marks the beginning of standardized testing for many students. I encourage everyone to support our learners by ensuring they get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time. Your encouragement makes a big difference in their confidence and performance.
Lastly, remember to follow the drop off and pick-up procedures. I understand that the line can get long but it is unsafe for people to make their own way. As always, we appreciate your partnership in making our school a place where every student feels supported and inspired to succeed. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Wishing you all a fantastic March!

Important Information
Testing
March kicks off testing season...
Here are some tips to help set your child up for success.
- Get a good nights sleep
- Avoid electronics before bedtime
- Eat a nutritious and filling breakfast (Avoid high sugar cereals which can make the student hyper and/or unfocused)
- Make sure the student is on time, set a backup alarm to avoid the possibility of oversleeping
- Avoid making appointments on the days of testing
- Avoid un-necessary absences. Getting caught up may overwhelming for the student.
Here are the Dates of testing by grade:
25-26 Intent to Return Form
If you have not done so, please complete the intent to return form. In preparation for next year, we would like to know how many of our present 4K through 5th grade, students will be returning to Big Bend Elementary next fall. We are asking that each family complete the form below so we may gather accurate data for the district office.
Please complete one form for each student separately.
Thank you!
Classroom Environment Form 2025-2026
*Must be completed by Monday, March 31st
Each spring, in preparation for the following school year, teachers divide their classes into instructional groups designed to promote the most effective learning environment possible. These groups are based upon the teacher observation, current test results, curriculum grouping, student ability factors, the ratio of boys and girls, the individual ages of the students, other behavior and social concerns, and exceptional educational needs.
Please list any justifiable educational needs that you would like us to take into consideration when placing your child. Please take time to describe a classroom environment you feel would benefit your child academically, socially, or emotionally.
Careful consideration will be given to the makeup of the classroom as a whole in order to create a culture conducive to learning. We ask that discussions regarding teachers held in the public setting be avoided. These conversations may lead to misrepresentations, generalizations, and misinformation.
Please note that parent input is just one aspect of determining student placement. This form will be reviewed by the principal and current staff.
Completing this form does not automatically place your child in a particular classroom, but will be a factor in the decision.
To be considered, this form must be completed by Monday, March 31, 2025. Forms can be found on the MASD website or click here to be taken directly to the form.
Preschool Screening March 10th
Do you have concerns about your child’s development? The Mukwonago Area School District will conduct preschool screening for children between the ages of 3-5 years old, or children not attending 5 year old kindergarten. If you have concerns about your child's development, you are encouraged to register. If the child is not an MASD resident, they must be in an MASD school aged program.
District staff will screen your child in the areas of cognitive development, personal/social skills, fine motor (small muscle), gross motor (large muscle), adaptive, speech/language, hearing, and vision. This screening is NOT 4K or 5K kindergarten screening. There is no cost, and takes approximately 45 minutes.
To schedule a required appointment, please contact Gina Berka at 262.363.6300 x24201, or by email at berkagi@masd.k12.wi.us.
