St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 7 | 29 AUGUST 2024
“ Gracious God, on Father’s Day we’re especially thankful for the fathers and father figures in our lives. Hold them in your good care. Give them patience, wisdom and strength, that through them their families may experience your unconditional love.
Bless those who long to be fathers and those whom this day is difficult. Amen"
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a busy week we have had. There have been a number of Performing Arts performances this week. I attended the Year 4 performance yesterday which was outstanding and a stand out compared to the other performances. Today and tonight, we have our Year 5 & 6 classes performing and I am sure they will perform just as well. Once again a huge thank you to Mrs McDonald for the amount of work she has put into preparing all of the students.
Over the remainder of the year there will be inserts in our newsletter from Michael Grosse. Michael is one of Australia's leading parenting and educational writers and speakers and an author of nine books for parents, including the best-selling Why First Borns Rule the World. Currently he supports over 1500 schools in Australia and internationally to build strong partnerships with their parent communities. Please see today’s insert on ‘The New Strict parent’ below.
A big thank you to the P&F ladies led by Clare and Leah for organising the Father’s Day breakfast yesterday. It was an outstanding success. I am also aware that they were at school around 5:00am in the morning to make sure that everything ran smoothly.
Please note that next week the canteen will not be open on Thursday, 5 September.
Next week we will have the School Open Night on Wednesday, 4 September from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. All families are invited to attend. Please note, that if you wish to talk to your child’s classroom teacher about their progress, you will need to book an appointment at a later date.
Just a reminder that families are asked to follow school and City of South Perth parking protocols
at drop off or pick up times.
Happy Father's Day to all our fathers and father figures on Sunday.
God Bless and keep safe.

Performing Arts Festival
The Performing Arts Festival concludes today. Thank you to Mrs McDonald for the huge amount of work she has put into preparing all of the students. This is an outstanding opportunity for all the children.
RoboCup 2024
On 24 & 25th August at Newman College selected Year 5 and 6 students attended the State Robocup competition. Students competed in 3 different challenges (Line Rescue, Mighty Maze and Onstage Performance). There were many highs and lows throughout such a challenging competition and we all experienced great growth from this opportunity. The teams and their results are:
Our Onstage teams were named:
- Mabuilders - performing a Matilda's theme (1st place out of over 40 teams)
- Andys room - performing a Toy story theme, (had a superb display), and
- Rainbow road - performing a Mario Kart theme (made it to be 1 of 16 teams in the finals).
The Mighty maze teams were named:
- MM2 - 1st Place
- M&M - 3rd place
The Line Rescue teams were:
- Line chasey - scoring 930 out of 1255
- Trailblazers - scoring 1010 our of 1255
All teams competed at a high level displaying very advanced robotics and coding skills to achieve such outstanding results. Mr Chatt and Mrs Wilkes, as mentors, certainly saw a team effort all round and we thank supporting parents and students that attended. Thank you to Mrs Burnett for attending and helping supervise and encourage students. Well done and congratulations to all!
Code of Conduct
We take this opportunity to direct members of our community to review our Code of Conduct. These statements are aimed at ensuring the protection and wellbeing of students in our care. In addition, awareness of the Code of Conduct ensures that adults do not put themselves in potentially vulnerable positions; for example, adults use the ambulant toilet when on site and do not use student toilets.
Should you witness any action or behaviour that contravenes the School Code of Conduct we ask all parents and carers to advise the Principal via email.
Please take a few moments to review our Code of Conduct.
Hi everyone,
On behalf of the whole school community, I would just like to thank Clare and Leah and all the other superstar Year 3 parents for putting on a fabulous Father’s Day event. A lot of work goes into this, and your efforts are very much appreciated.
Now we focus our attention to our Colour Carnival Event. We are excited to be offering this for our Kindy - Year 6 students. Kindy families, your colour carnival event will be on Wednesday, 18 September. The rest of the school will be Friday, 20 September (last day of school).
We have had a couple of requests to hold Tech Club again for Term 4. If this goes ahead, it will be offered at full price for parents. More information to come.
At our last P&F meeting, we had some fabulous P&F pitch requests come through from the students. I will share the successful ones as soon as we make our final decision. These pitches ranged from art clubs through to soccer lunchtime clubs. It is so wonderful to see our children put in the effort for this initiative.
Have a wonderful week everyone.
