May 2024 End-of-Year Edition!
Canvas
Hereβs what you need to know about the Canvas end-of-year process:
On May 31st your course(s) will end which means they will be frozen in time foreverβstudents will lose access and you wonβt be able to change any content, but YOU CAN always view and create an editable copy of your course(s) whenever you want. See below to find the steps for your situation:
I want to make changes to my course content before the new school year begins:
Since youβll be unable to make changes to your course after May 31st, you need to make a copy of your course that you can edit. Click the link below to see how to make a copy of your course. Youβll copy your freshly revised course content into your new courses in August. Weβll send those steps out when the time comes.

I like my course exactly how it is; I donβt need to make any changes:
You donβt have to do anything. When your new courses come in at the beginning of next year, youβll copy the content from your current course into your new course. Weβll send out the steps to do this when the new courses arrive in August. If you change your mind, follow the steps above to make an editable copy of your course.
I want to make some major changes to my course; Iβd prefer to start from scratch:
Click the βStart a New Courseβ button located on the right side of your Canvas dashboard. Give the course a very specific name so you donβt get confused, and begin rebuilding your course. If there are some specific parts of your current course that you want to reuse, watch the short video below that demos how to copy only selected content.

I placed students in a manually created course for a club/organization/project... What do I need to do when this year ends?
- If you want students to have access to the course throughout the summer, you donβt need to do anything; however, make sure you continue to monitor course activity and unpublish any unmonitored discussion boards or chat rooms.
- If you want to leave the course open but change the enrollment, you can manually add/remove students in the βPeopleβ section.
- If youβre completely done with the course, go to βSettingsβ and on right side of the βCourse Detailsβ tab youβll see a button that says βConclude this Courseβ(the button may be at the bottom of the page depending on your screen size/settings).

Important updates regarding the use of Seesaw for the 24-25 school year:
Starting next year, Seesaw will only be available for PreK through 3rd grade. This decision has been made to better align with our instructional goals and resources for these grade levels. We understand that this may require adjustments for those of you teaching higher grades, and we are committed to providing support during this transition.
Additionally, we are excited to announce that the District Seesaw library will undergo a significant refresh. This update will include new resources and materials designed to enhance the learning experience and support our educational objectives. The refreshed library will be more user-friendly and aligned with current curricular standards, providing an even more effective tool for our teachers and students.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement these changes. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Please Help Us Protect Student, Staff and District Data!
Regularly deleting Personally Identifiable Information (yours and students) you no longer need can help limit costly data breaches and identity theft. Also, please be wary of connecting your devices to public WiFi networks--especially if they contain student data or if you're accessing district programs(all public networks aren't bad, but all aren't safe, either). When possible, using your phone as a hotspot is a safer alternative. If you're traveling outside of the U.S., you will not be able to sign into any MPS platforms. PII includes, but is not limited to:
Attendance records
Photographs and videos of students in your classroom
Confidential correspondences with parents, colleagues, and administrators
Assessment data
IEPs, 504 plans, and other documents outlining students' learning needs
Grades and academic records
Behavioral records
Student/parent contact information
Health and medical information
Student rosters and seating charts
Student work samples, projects, and portfolios
Documents containing username and password information

New Programs & App Approvals
There are several steps as well as vendor cooperation required to ensure apps and programs are safe for student use, so it is unlikely that any new requests for apps or programs will be approved before the end of this school year. If there is a new app or program that you want to use with students next year, go to iiQ and use the "Get Approval for New EdTech Tool" option to submit the request. Thank you for helping keep our students safe!
