Corbett Grade School
May 2024
Dear Corbett Grade School Families,
During the week of May 6-9 we will be celebrating our wonderful Corbett Grade School Teachers and Staff. I want to take a moment to extend my heartfelt thanks to the amazing staff of Corbett Grade School. Together, we've navigated challenges, celebrated successes, and created countless memorable moments for our students.
The dedication of the Corbett Grade School Staff shines brightly, illuminating the path to a brighter future for our children. Our staff greets students and their families early in the morning with a smile and kind work. Our teachers, counselors, and educational assistants support not just our students academic needs, but also help them both socially and emotionally. Our health room, cafeteria, and front office makes sure our students are taken care of if they are sick, injured, hungry, or need a break or maybe to call home. Thank you for your tireless efforts in educating, inspiring, and nurturing the young minds entrusted to your care.
Together, as a collaborative community, we have accomplished so much this year. As we look ahead to the future, let's continue to work together to nurture the growth and success of every child at Corbett Grade School. celebrate our staff during Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week (May 6-9).

Meet the New Principal!!
We are so excited to announce the new principal of Corbett Grade School, Cassie Duprey. Ms. Duprey might be familiar to many of you, as she is our current assistant vice principal of Corbett High School since 2020.
Ms. Duprey has been a teacher and school administrator for 21 years, first in Friars Point, Mississippi and then in Oakland, California before making her way to Corbett, Oregon. She began her career teaching 4th, 5th and 6th grades at Friars Point Elementary in the Mississippi Delta as part of Teach For America, followed by a year teaching Politics at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She then spent five years as a 5th and 8th grade math teacher at KIPP: Bridge College Preparatory in Oakland. She came to Corbett in 2011 and taught Algebra and U.S. History for eight years in the high school.
During that time, Ms. Duprey earned her administrative credential and began to support Corbett High School’s work-based learning program, student scheduling, and incomplete recovery while continuing to work as a classroom teacher.
Originally from Everett, Washington, Ms. Duprey has a bachelor’s from Whitman College, a master’s degree in teaching from Concordia University, and a certificate from the School Administrator Program at Concordia University. In her free time, she loves to travel with her family, read, garden, and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP). Both of her children attended Corbett Grade School, and she is grateful for the excellent staff, multiage classrooms, and place-based learning opportunities that make Corbett special.
We are excited to have you lead Corbett Grade School with her dedication to Corbett students, her support for our teachers and staff, and her ability to get things done!
First Place for 6th Grade Math is Cool Master's Competition!
On Saturday, April 26, our 6th Grade Math is Cool team traveled to Moses Lake, Washington to compete in the Master's Competition. David Enos, Claire Horton, and Laly Helzer, Kai Unruh, and Grace Cooper, along with Mrs. Chiu, made the journey to the competition. Their team were fierce competitors and ended up with FIRST PLACE!! This group of students have practiced many hours to achieve this success. Our congratulations to our Grade 6 Math is Cool Master's Competition Team!
6th Grade Outdoor School Success!
Our 6th grade students returned on Friday, May 4 after a week at outdoor school. Mrs. Kennedy's class attended Camp Collins just across the Sandy River from Corbett and Ms. Church's class traveled to Camp Westwind on the Oregon Coast. Both camps were a bit cold and wet the first few days, but our students are hardy and had a great time!
Established in 1966, Multnomah Education Service District Outdoor School program in Oregon is one of the longest running and most successful environmental education programs in the nation. Outdoor School is a residential program for all sixth grade students enrolled in Multnomah County and the surrounding region (approximately 7,000 annually).
While at outdoor school students learn about soil, water, animals, and plants. They also meet other students from around the area and learn things like archery and outdoor cooking. Many students enjoyed time playing games, learning songs, and doing the hard thing of being away from home. It was also a week without internet, phones, or television, an added bonus!
We are very thankful to Ms. Church and Mrs. Kennedy for spending a week away from their families and providing this opportunity for our students!
