Noon Message to Families
September 9, 2024
Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
Homecoming is an incredibly special time for a school district.
Although we are a Class 6A District, we have a hometown vibe about us. We have several special events planned during Homecoming Week, which will take place between October 7-11, and we encourage you to come out and join us.
- All campuses and departments can register to have a float in the parade. The deadline to submit your registration form is Friday, September 27.
- We will celebrate the “120th Year of Education” from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 7 before the Cedar Hill ISD Board of Trustees Meetings. Those who attend will have the opportunity to learn about 12 decades of CHISD history.
- The Homecoming Parade will take place from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9 at Cedar Hill High School, followed by the big game – when the Longhorn Football Team hosts Mesquite at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 11.
IMPORTANCE OF TESTING
When we emphasize the importance of testing with our scholars, they may not listen or acknowledge it the first time. We have to continuously bring it up with them.
Does a standardized test tell the entire story of a scholar’s potential achievement? Of course, not. But it’s important that they recognize that these exams can impact their lives for decades to come.
It can determine the university that accepts them, and how much money they can potentially receive in scholarship dollars. It’s difficult to think about college debt at age 16 or 17, but how many of us would time travel, just to erase a couple of those student loans?
Encourage our scholars to have a good night’s rest and a nutritious meal the night before a standardized test.
Thank you for your continued support!
Dr. Gerald B. Hudson
Superintendent

Early Literacy
Early literacy is a critical stepping stone in a child’s educational journey, laying the groundwork for academic success and lifelong learning. When children develop strong reading and writing skills at a young age, they gain the ability to understand and engage with the world around them. This early foundation not only boosts their confidence in the classroom but also enhances their ability to think critically, solve problems, and communicate effectively.
In Cedar Hill ISD, we are committed to fostering a culture of literacy from the earliest stages of a child’s education. By prioritizing early literacy, we ensure that our students are equipped with the skills they need to excel in all subject areas. Reading aloud, exploring books together, and encouraging writing at home are simple yet powerful ways to support your child’s literacy development.
As parents, educators, and community members, it is our collective responsibility to make early literacy a top priority. By working together, we can create a nurturing environment where every child has the opportunity to develop a love for reading and a strong foundation in literacy. Let’s ensure our students are set up for success, both in school and in life.
Supporting literacy involves creating an environment that encourages reading, writing, and communication. Here are some effective ways to support literacy:
Read Aloud Regularly: Reading to children of all ages helps develop their listening skills, vocabulary, and love for stories.
Create a Reading-Friendly Environment: Fill your home with books, magazines, and other reading materials. Encourage children to explore them.
Engage in Conversations: Talk with children regularly to enhance their language skills. Ask open-ended questions and encourage them to express their thoughts.
Visit Libraries and Bookstores: Regular trips to libraries and bookstores can help children discover new books and foster a love for reading.
Encourage Writing: Provide opportunities for children to write stories, letters, or even simple notes. This helps them practice writing and organize their thoughts.
Limit Screen Time: Encourage activities that involve reading or writing instead of excessive screen time.
Be a Role Model: Show your own love for reading and writing. Children are more likely to value literacy if they see adults doing the same.
Use Educational Games and Apps: Leverage technology that promotes reading and literacy in an interactive way.
Incorporate Reading into Daily Activities: Include reading in daily routines, such as reading recipes, instructions, or signs together.
Praise and Encourage: Celebrate progress and efforts in reading and writing, no matter how small. This builds confidence and motivation.

Digital Parent University Session: This or That: Great Success or Great Failure
Please join us tonight for our Digital Parent University Session on the topic of Dual Credit.
Dual credit programs in Cedar Hill ISD are a crucial opportunity for students to gain college credits while still in high school, allowing them to get a head start on their higher education journey. These programs not only save students time and money by reducing the number of courses needed in college but also help them build the academic skills and confidence required for future success. By participating in dual credit, students experience a smoother transition to college, enhance their college applications, and develop a strong foundation for lifelong learning and career readiness. It’s an investment in their future.
