We will two staff members who will not be starting the school year with us. Mr. Syrjala will be out of the classroom for the first two weeks of school. Mr. Jake Wolf will be his sub. In addition, Mrs. Jurasin will be out of the classroom for an extended time. Mrs. Jen Hietiko will be her sub. Both Mr. Wolf and Mrs. Hietiko are veteran subs and will take excellent care of our students and there should be little to no disruptions in student learning.

• FALL 2024 SCHEDULES: Students should look over class schedules on Skyward and reach out to their assigned counselor (Moffett, A-L; Young M-Z) prior to the start of the school year to request any final changes, if possible. The last day to make schedule changes is Thursday, September 5th.
  
• Seniors applying for college: The FAFSA will be released on the original December 1 date this year. Be on the lookout for FAFSA information night and information from the counselors!
• COUNSELOR ABSENCE: Mrs. Young will be on maternity leave this Fall beginning around September 23 through winter break. During her absence, we will have additional social-emotional support team members, and academic/postsecondary needs can be served with one of our other office staff members for students on her caseload (last names M-Z). Scheduling will be done through the front office for any needs during her time away.
• SAT Re-test: Any senior interested in re-taking the SAT on October 21 should sign up in the front office no later than September 16.
• POA: Sny students who have enrolled in a POA elective need to pick up an application from the front office.
  

There will be class meetings on Wednesday, September 4th in the Patriot Performing Arts Theater. The schedule is as follows-

9th grade - 8:30 a.m.

10th grade - 9:35 a.m.

11th grade- 10:30 a.m.

12th grade - 11:10 a.m.

Students will reveive general information on school rules and polies, counseling updates, and updates from our new school nurse Danielle Citadino.

All schools are required to perform mulitple emergency drills throughout the school year. The following is a list of emergency drills for the 2024-25 school year:

9/5 - Fire Drill @ 9:10 a.m.

9/12 - Tornado Drill @ 10:05 a.m.

9/13 - Lock Down Drill @ 11 a.m.

10/3 - Fire Drill @ 1:50 p.m.

10/14 - Shelter in Place @ 9:15 a.m.

11/6 - Fire Drill @ 12:20 p.m.

1/28 - Torndado Drill @ 2;05 p.m.

2/18 - Shelter in Place @ 2:30 p.m.

4/25 - Fire Drill @ 8:50 a.m.

5/5 - Fire Drill @ 10:00 a.m.

Information was sent via email last week regarding the new cell phone procedures at Westwood High School. As a reminder, beginning this fall, cell phones will not be allowed during instructional time. They can be used before school, between classes, at lunch, and after school. As partners in your child's education, we kindly ask for your support in enforcing this new rule. By working together to limit cell phone use in the classroom, we can create a more productive and enriching educational experience for all students. I have attached a copy of the cell phone policy for your review.

Regular attendance is crucial for academic success and personal growth. Being present at school not only ensures that students receive the full benefit of their education but also helps them develop important life skills like responsibility and time management. We encourage everyone to make every school day count!
