Health Reminder: Keeping Our Community Healthy
We're seeing increased levels of respiratory illnesses (including RSV, Pertussis (whooping cough), Influenza, and COVID-19) in Wisconsin, along with reports of strep throat and gastroenteritis (stomach bug). To help keep our school community healthy, please keep your student home from school when they are ill. If attendance is a concern, please contact your child's healthcare provider. Their office may be able to provide a medical excuse.
Here are some helpful tips:
- Stay home when sick: Students should stay home for at least 24 hours after symptoms (fever, vomiting, or diarrhea) have completely stopped without the use of medication. They should also be feeling better overall before returning to school. Note: use of medications includes Tylenol, Ibuprofen, or any medications used to stop vomiting/diarrhea.
- Still unsure when your child should stay home? Please see our handy "When to Stay Home From School" reference guide.
- Stay up-to-date with vaccinations: Vaccinations are effective in preventing many illnesses.
- Practice good hygiene: Frequent handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes are important.
For more information on respiratory illness activity in Wisconsin, please visit the Department of Health Services Respiratory Illness Dashboard: https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/disease/respiratory-data.htm
Thank you for your help in keeping our schools healthy.
