FEBRUARY 28, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
The end of the trimester is fast approaching next week on Thursday, March 7. Please reinforce with your student(s) the importance of finishing the trimester strong and academically focused. In our staff meeting this morning, I asked the same of our teachers. We are committed to finishing the trimester highly focused and engaged in student learning. Thank you for your support. Together, we can maximize student learning, development and success.
We are still reviewing the feedback from last week’s pulse check survey. We’ve noted appreciation for friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful counselors and teachers making an effort to know and understand students’ needs. There was praise for the many ways students can earn college credit at Spring Lake Park High School. We also saw gratitude for the music teachers and booster club for make the upcoming spring break band and choir trip possible for students.
We also are working through questions and concerns expressed about vaping, the parent/student drop-off and pick-up line and some suggestions about student behaviors. We also saw some questions around teacher planning days. We continue to review this round of input more deeply for follow up and future planning.
Finally, just a reminder that spring break is March 8-18. There is no school for students on these dates. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. One school, one community, #SLPPantherProud!

How To Make Almost Anything
The 3D printers are humming in the Maker Space. Student-designed objects for How To Make Almost Anything, one of the most popular courses at Spring Lake Park High School, are appearing. The Technology, Engineering and Design elective within the Career and College Pathways offerings provides a jumping off point for students to explore potential careers as they learn.
Whether your student is in kindergarten or well into their high school years, check out what course instructor, Karen Kutz, describes as “engineering meets arts and crafts.” Hear from students taking the course and weigh in on the OnShape vs. Illustrator debate. Get the full story.
Panthers for a Purpose raises $142,500
The Panther Foundation’s annual Week of Giving and Panther Party raised $142,500 to support activities and programs benefiting the students of Spring Lake Park Schools.
Panther Pride was on full display throughout the Week of Giving, February 18-24, 2024. There were themed spirit wear days, dine to donate opportunities in partnership with local restaurants, and a silent auction with more than 400 packages. The culminating event of the week was the Panther Party on Saturday, February 24.
Adding to the festivities was a milestone moment – the 20th anniversary of the Panther Foundation. Since 2004, the Foundation has awarded more than $2.2 million to Spring Lake Park Schools to fund more than 400 projects and initiatives. See examples of the impacts in the 20th anniversary video below.
While the party may be over, the giving isn’t. Each year, the Foundation identifies a Fund-A-Dream project. This year, the focus is support for the Weekend Food Pack Program. A Weekend Food Pack costs just $3 and keeps kids fed while they are away from school over the weekend. There’s still time to donate online.
