ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT - Week of Sept 15, 2024
HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
CHEER
In the spirit of giving back, the EHTHS cheerleading team conducted a school supplies drive to benefit EHT students and educators. This week, the cheerleaders worked together to box donations and prepare signs. Students and educators in need of supplies should visit us at the EHT Community Pride Festival this Saturday, from 11am-3pm. Go Eagles!
GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER
On Monday 9/16 the Eagles traveled to Vineland for their 5th straight road win. The Road Warriors defeated the Clan 8-1. Sophomore Maddie Johnson started the scoring and finished with two goals, Freshman Jackie Brownlee netted two goals herself and Senior Aniyah Parker added two goals along with three assists. Junior Abbie Mathis aided in the goal campaign with two assists. Brielle VonColln had a goal and an assist. Freshman Evelyn Brown scored her first career varsity goal. Senior Abigail Lyon made four saves in the win. In doing so, Abigail Lyon became EHTHS Girls Soccer Career Wins Leader with a total of 28 career wins. Lyon has four wins on the season and zero losses.
The Lady Eagles finally come home for a three-game homestand. They will host Middle Township on Friday, Lenape on Saturday and rival Ocean City on Monday.
BOYS VARSITY SOCCER
Boys soccer is off to a 3-3 start. Sitting 2nd in the CAL American Division. Leading goal scorers Kevlin Murray with 3 goals, Gio Bongiorno with 2 Goals & 3 Assist, & John Molina with 2 goals. The EAGLES next game is home against Lenape on Saturday 12pm.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The boys cross country team honored our seniors this week at our home meet. Chris Minshall, Cam Koryga, Aaron Wagner, and Brandon Beswick were our 4 seniors. The boys won both meets against The Prep and Vineland. The boys took the first 11 spots of the race. Cam Koryga won the meet.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
The Girls Cross Country team moved to 3-1 after their home win against Vineland. Paige Pacquing and Addie Lambert went 1-2 in the race! Seniors Andrea Loayza Nunez, Bithania Andemariam, and Rachael Bellettini were celebrated for all of their hard work on Senior Night along with boys' seniors Cam Koryga, Aaron Wagner, Chris Minshall, and Brandon Beswick! EHTXC goes to Stockton University on Friday for the Osprey Invite and will then go to ACIT on Tuesday to take on ACIT and Hammonton.
GIRLS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL
The girls' volleyball team continued its winning ways with victories over Absegami, Lower Cape May, and ACIT this week. This marks the first triumph over ACIT in the program's 7-year history. The team now sits alone in first place of the CAL - American Division with a record of 8 wins and 1 loss.
At Absegami, senior outside hitter Journey Green led the way with five kills, while senior libero Aidana Iulchibaeva held down the defense with 6 digs. The gym was full of energy Wednesday when ACIT visited. Journey led the way with 8 kills, while junior outside hitter racked up 2 kills and 3 aces. ACIT was vanquished in straight sets. EHT faces rival Mainland on EHT Community Pride Day, this weekend.
Also, sophomore setter Kaylee Beck was named CAL player of the week for last week. She has earned a team-high 68 assists this season. Junior setter Alyssa Hickey is close behind with 66 assists.
GIRLS TENNIS
Girls tennis improved its record to 9-0 with a pair of 5-0 wins over Ocean City and Absegami this week. Singles players Sabina Giurca, Camille More, and Julie Denning were strong in their straight set wins. Doubles Demi Lu/Belina Zhang and Lily Ferriola/Makayla Henderson handled the wind and their opponents impressively at OC.
On Thursday at Absegami, EHT gave up a total of two games in five matches to notch a 5-0 win. First singles Sabina Giurca won 6-1, 6-0. Secon singles Camille More and 3rd singles Julie Denning both bageled their opponents with 6-0, 6-0 wins. First doubles Demi Lu & Belina Zhang remained undefeated with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Second doubles Lily Ferriola & Makayla Henderson were almost flawless in their 6-0, 6-0 win.
Looking ahead to tough week with matches against Middle, Mainland, and Ocean City next week!
