Lockdown Drill Notification
Dear Parents/Guardians of Conley Elementary School,
In compliance and in cooperation with Algonquin Police Department, Conley Elementary will be conducting a “Lockdown” Drill on Friday, October 4th. A “Lockdown” Drill is a simulation event intended to practice procedures for protecting students and staff should there ever be a safety threat on the school campus.
The “Lockdown” Drill, like our fire and tornado drills, is part of the Huntley Community School District 158 Comprehensive Safety and Crisis Plan. The school district works closely with local police and fire departments in their response to our schools during times of crisis. Local first responders participate in these practice drills throughout the school year.
Conley students will be supervised during the drill by their regular teachers and students will practice their safety efforts with their teachers. These activities are conducted in ways appropriate to the developmental level of the students involved and they will have an opportunity to ask questions. The drill does not include any type of simulations that mimic an actual shooting or active shooter event.
We want to bring this to your attention to keep you aware of our commitment to protect your child and to alert you to this safety drill. If you would like your child to be excluded from this drill, please contact Katie Surjan before Wednesday, October 2nd. Alternative safety education will be provided to any student who does not participate in the drill.
As a parent, your child may want to share their experience with you. This is a good opportunity for you to reassure your child that the drill was a practice to keep them safe and to reinforce with them that the teacher is trained on how to protect them and that they should always follow the safety directions of the teacher.
Please note that our Campus Resource Officer, Brian Landreville ,who works for Algonquin Police Department, will be observing this drill. The Campus Resource Officer will then collaborate and reflect with the school's administration to ensure our actions during this crisis are the best safe practices.
As always, please contact me if you have any questions about this or our other proactive safety measures.
Sincerely,
Katie Surjan

Huntley 158 Virtual Bulletin Board
The Huntley 158 Virtual Bulletin Board (VBB) is a way to connect Huntley 158 families with enrichment and educational events and programs in the community. This year, rather than receiving a separate email, families can find these opportunities on the district’s Virtual Bulletin Board webpage in our weekly newsletter. We encourage you to click the link and check out what’s happening for students and families in the community!
To submit a program or event for inclusion on the Huntley 158 VBB, organizations must be not-for-profit or a taxing body based in Huntley 158 boundaries or a surrounding community. Please email your event flyer in PNG or PDF format to kimoore@district158.org and include "VBB" in the subject line. To ensure accessibility for all, flyers must be accompanied by a brief description of your event that includes the name of your event, date, time, location, call to action/website link (if applicable) as well as contact information. Thank you!
