INSTRUCTIONAL SCHOOL DAY: 7:45 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to February! It’s hard to believe how quickly the year is moving along. We are now halfway through the third marking period, and on Monday, we will be celebrating the 100th day of school! 🎉 Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education, our students are making GREAT progress, and we couldn’t do it without you!
Mid-Year Assessments & Academic Progress
We are excited to share that all K-5 students have completed their middle-of-year (Winter) MAP assessments in Reading and Math. These assessments provide valuable insight into your child’s growth and areas of focus. Please keep an eye out for the MAP test family reports, which will give you a snapshot of how your child is performing in these key subjects. In the meantime, we encourage you to continue supporting learning at home by reading together daily and engaging in math and reading discussions to reinforce their skills. Additionally, academic progress reports will be available on HAC on February 7th.
Spring Conferences
Spring conferences will begin next week, specifically for students who may need additional support to meet their academic goals by the end of the year. If your child’s teacher reaches out for a conference, we encourage you to attend so we can work together to develop a plan for success. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to reach out to their teacher to set up a meeting.
February Events & Important Dates
📌 Black History Month – Throughout February, we will be celebrating and honoring the incredible contributions of Black leaders, inventors, and trailblazers in history.
📌 Student Panorama Survey (Feb. 7th) – Third through fifth grade students will participate in the Panorama Survey to provide feedback on their school experience. This helps us understand how we can continue to create a positive and supportive learning environment.
📌 School Holiday (Feb. 17th) – Please note that school will be closed on this day for Teacher Professional Development. Enjoy the long weekend with your family!
As always, we appreciate your involvement and support in your child’s education. Together, we can help them FINISH the year STRONG! Thank you and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Thank you once again for your support!

February is Black History Month!
Black History Month, also referred to as African American History Month, is an annual celebration of the achievements, culture, joy, pride, and lives of African Americans. Black History Month also honors the central role that African Americans played in the history of the United States. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.
Throughout the year (NOT only in February), we must also ensure that black students see themselves represented in our classroom cultures, in the stories we share (both fiction and nonfiction), in what we learn and teach about, in what we celebrate, and in the events we participate in!

3rd-5th Panorama Student Survey
Panorama Student Survey
Northside ISD is committed to educating the whole child to include engaged learning and student academics, safety and security, social emotional development, and support for students, families, and staff. Therefore, we will be gathering input on student experiences in school. Students in grades 3-12 will be asked to participate in a survey.
Students who have developed knowledge and skills in social and emotional learning perform better academically. Students who are self aware, make good decisions, and can regulate their emotions have a better chance of thriving in school, career, and life. Students who can work collaboratively and communicate effectively are better able to harness their academic knowledge to perform in school. Collecting student survey feedback helps ensure educators are providing students with all necessary supports to achieve academic success.
NISD is utilizing surveys to inform practices around supporting students, teachers, and families. This information helps teachers plan targeted strategies and supports as needed. Results support skill development for whole classrooms, small groups, or individual students. This way, all students have the opportunity to build the skills needed to be successful in the classroom.
Students’ responses will provide invaluable insight into their experiences. District and school leaders will use their responses to better support the whole child and improve both our district and our schools.
Surveys will be administered during school on during mid to late February If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, please contact Ms. Monique Moore (denice.moorezigmond@nisd.net) by February 3rd.
Students who Opted-Out of Fall Survey
If you previously requested that your child not participate in the survey that occurred in October, your child will also be exempt from the upcoming survey. However, if you’d like your child to participate in the February survey, please contact Ms. Monique Moore (denice.moorezigmond@nisd.net), School Counselor by February 3rd.

2024 Lieck Morning Visitors and FAST Pass Procedures
*Morning Check In Procedures for Visitors are Changing
In efforts to continually improve our safety procedures at Lieck, we will be adjusting our visitor check in procedures in the morning, from 7:00am-7:40am. This change will go into effect starting, Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
What is changing?
All visitors must scan their ID or Driver’s License through our Raptor System upon arrival. Visitors will be issued a sticker with profile and visitor information generated by the Raptor System. Thank you for your patience and understanding as there may be long lines to enter the building. Each day will run a little smoother and faster.
Lieck FAST Pass
The Lieck FAST Pass will be available pending background check status. The FAST Pass will be valid through the end of the grading period. Parents and visitors will still need to check in every day and have the pass visible at all times. Parents must also scan their ID through our Raptor System (once per grading cycle). Parents, please fill this link out and the front office will be able to determine if you are eligible upon your visit to receive the Lieck Fast Pass. If you are interested in having a FAST PASS created (pending a cleared background) please complete the following form so that the front office staff can start working on your pass.
FAST PASS Interest Google Form
*Background checks may take a few days to process so we thank you in advance for your patience.
Background check Website:

*Passes are color coordinated and will have the parent/ visitor profile picture on them. Passes must be visible at all times while on campus.
*Each 9 Weeks the badge color system will change. All pass holders will need to reapply using our Raptor System (upon check in). This practice is intended to further improve our safety and security procedures here at Lieck Elementary.

Lunch (Pending your child's lunch time)
Pre-arranged Meetings (with teacher)

Drop Off & Dismissal Procedures
Drop Off and Dismissal
Parents, you are welcome to walk your child to class before 7:40am.
Please check in with staff in the lobby to receive your pass. You can drop off your child curbside or at the door and our staff will take over from there.
Additionally at dismissal, we highly encourage for families to remain in their vehicle at front pick-up to avoid unsafe, unnecessary crowding. For our "walk-up" parents, we will continue to use the side areas as waiting areas and we will bring your child to you.

A Word from the Nurse
The school nurse does not diagnose illnesses but takes notes of the symptoms and notifies the parent/guardian of the observations. If a child becomes ill or injured at school, the student will be assessed and given first aid, and the parent/guardian will be notified if the severity of the injury or illness warrants such action.
Children should be kept at home when ill and are expected to be free of fever (temperature less than 100.0° F) and free of communicable diseases in order to attend school. In accordance with the Texas Administrative Code, students are required to be excluded from school until fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications. The Texas Department of State Health Services defines fever as a temperature of 100.0°F or greater. This is important for the health of the child and for the health of all children at the school.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
STUDENT BIRTHDAYS
Parents may send store-bought, prepackaged individually frosted cupcakes, cookies, or doughnuts only for their child’s classroom to recognize their child’s birthday (no cakes, cupcake cakes, ice cream, etc.). As an alternative to food, parents may send an item for each student in the class such as stickers, stationary, pencils, etc. These items should be safe, inexpensive, easy to pass out, and not promote any political, religious, or other slogans/beliefs. School personnel will have the sole discretion as to whether or not the items are appropriate to pass out. It is best to check with your child’s teacher in advance.
Balloons, goodie bags, or food items (other than those above) are strictly prohibited. When purchasing cupcakes, be aware that there are a number of students on campus that have food allergies. Check with your child’s teacher before sending cupcakes to school to ensure items sent can be taken to the classroom. Cupcakes are to be dropped off at the school office and our staff will deliver them to the classrooms near the end of the school day. The cupcakes must not be eaten in the cafeteria and will be passed out to the children at the very end of the school day in order to limit disruption to instructional time. Parents and family members are not allowed to deliver cupcakes to the classroom.

-PTA CORNER-
Buses and Boundaries
Northside ISD assigns students to schools according to the street address where the student resides. Our Boundaries and Buses Information System will provide you with the name and address of the schools serving your area. Just enter the student’s street number and street name to search for school assignment, bus route information, and any future Board adopted boundary changes.
For general boundary information, attendance area maps for each elementary, middle & high schools are listed on the campus sites.
While one-on-one communication is the best, in a district as large as Northside ISD it is sometimes difficult. Because we want our parents to stay informed, NISD has several ways that parents and other interested citizens can stay informed about the successes and challenges of San Antonio’s premier school district of choice, as well as find out news about their children’s schools.
