The Principal's Message
Hello EMS Families,
Spring is almost here, bringing warmer weather and the final stretch of the school year! As we near the end of the 3rd marking period, I want to highlight some upcoming activities before spring break.
March is Reading Month, and we have exciting activities planned to help foster a love of reading with our students. During WIN Time, students will read The Positive Dog by Jon Gordon, a story about having a positive mindset—an important lesson as they navigate middle school challenges. Mindset is a choice and having a positive one will definitely lead you on a successful path. Our librarian has also created a March Madness Book Bracket playing off the infamous college basketball tournament. It features the top 16 books checked out this year. Students will listen to book blurbs read by staff and vote on their favorites—ask your child which books are advancing!
With four weeks until spring break, teachers are working hard to prepare students for state assessments that assess required standards and benchmarks. These will begin two weeks after we return from spring break. Students recently brought home their winter NWEA results and goals—they should have discussed their strengths and areas for improvement with you. It is tremendously important and helpful to build in time at home to work towards these goals also. Spring parent-teacher conferences will focus on students needing extra support, with teachers reaching out to schedule virtual meetings. Additionally, we invite all families to our Celebration of Learning, where students can showcase their classwork and what a day in their life looks like.
Wishing you all a wonderful spring—I hope to see you at our Celebration of Learning or conferences!
Melissa Titsworth

March is reading Month!
- Ask your children if they are participating in the March Madness Book Tournament. If you'd like to learn about this tournament, check out Mr. Youngs' video on our EMS Facebook page!
- Please encourage your students to vote for their favorite book during their WIN time!
Chromebooks:
We’ve noticed a large number of students forgetting their Chromebooks daily. Please remember to bring your Chromebook to school each day, fully charged. They are essential for daily activities, and it’s especially important right now with online testing happening, including the upcoming MSTEP.
Please keep in mind that we have a limited number of loaner Chromebooks available, and unfortunately, we won’t be able to accommodate everyone who forgets theirs. Thank you for helping us with this!
Ceramics Sale!
8th grade Art students have been busy making and glazing ceramic mugs in class. They made one for themselves and one to donate to charity for their service learning project. Students proposed charities they wanted to support, made presentation slides, then voted. The charity that won the most votes this year is once again the Humane Society of Genesee County. Students will be selling their mugs for charity during our Celebration of Learning on Thursday evening, March 13th, for $10 each. Parents of art students will be able to reserve their own child’s mug if they wish. All proceeds this year will go to the Humane Society. We will be in the Atrium with our mugs on Thursday, March 13th from 4:00 to 7:00pm. Stop by to show your support or just say, “hi.”
Thank you for all you do to support the arts.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gresock
Remember our Upcoming Doughnut & Popcorn Dates!
