As spring blossoms, we're excited to share all the wonderful happenings across our sites. In this month's edition, we'll celebrate the growth and achievements of our students and staff, highlight key updates, and provide a sneak peek into the exciting events planned for April. From Earth Day activities to upcoming special programs, there’s so much to look forward to this month!

🌟 Student of the Week: Robert White (UPK Room 5) 🌟 Main Site
We are thrilled to celebrate Robert White as our Student of the Week! 🎉 Robert consistently demonstrates respect and responsibility in everything he does. His positive attitude and willingness to help others make him a true role model in our community. 💛
What’s even more impressive is Robert’s dedication to growing both academically and linguistically. He has been steadily expanding his vocabulary in multiple languages through song, all while staying on top of his academic goals. 🎶📚

🌟 Student of the Week: Canek Morales (2nd Grade, Afterschool – Main Site) 🌟
We are so proud to celebrate Canek Morales as our Student of the Week! 🎉 Canek is an incredibly bright student who has shown amazing progress during his time at 82nd Street Academics. He always arrives ready to learn, and his curiosity and dedication inspire those around him. 📚✨
Beyond academics, Canek is a wonderful friend—he collaborates well with his classmates and always treats others with kindness and respect. 💛 His teachers adore him, and we can’t wait to see him continue to shine and grow!

🌟 Student of the Week: Geovanny Rodriguez (7th Grade, REN1) 🌟
We are excited to recognize Geovanny Rodriguez as our Student of the Week! 🎉 Geo is a passionate and enthusiastic learner who eagerly embraces new knowledge and enjoys exploring new ideas. 📚✨
His passion also extends to the soccer field, where he loves playing with his classmates and demonstrating great team spirit. ⚽🙌 Geo consistently showcases leadership by assisting his peers with homework and actively engaging in group activities. His ability to thrive in collaborative and dynamic environments makes him a valued member of our community.

🌟 Student of the Week: Lennin Tepan – 3rd Grade (PS280Q) 🌟
Lennin shines as a role model in the classroom, always going above and beyond! Whether lending a helping hand during clean-up time or following directions with a positive attitude, Lennin consistently sets a great example.
With a big smile and a fantastic sense of humor, Lennin brightens everyone's day—both students and staff alike! 😊 On top of spreading joy, they’ve also earned the MOST Class Dojo points this week for their hard work, effort, and kindness.

🌟 Student of the Week: Renata (Kindergarten, REN2) 🌟
We are so proud to celebrate Renata, a bright and resilient kindergartener who never fails to light up the classroom with her radiant smile. 😊✨ Despite facing challenges that would test even the strongest, she continues to shine with her positive attitude and infectious energy.
Renata’s kindness, eagerness to learn, and determination make her a true role model for those around her. Her persistence, strong work ethic, and passion for learning inspire us all every single day. 💛 This week, we honor her resilience and bravery, proving that no challenge is too big when faced with a smile and a courageous heart. 💪🌟

🌟 Student Highlight: Derek Valera (6th Grade Hunters Point) 🌟
We are proud to recognize Derek Valera for demonstrating exceptional leadership and community values! 🙌 During snack time, Derek took the initiative to help keep our cafeteria clean and organized by going around with the trash bin—without being asked! 🗑️✨
His willingness to contribute, thoughtfulness toward others, and commitment to creating a positive environment set a wonderful example for his peers. Derek’s actions show that small gestures can make a big impact on our community! 💛

🌟 Employee of the Week: Ashley – Lead Teacher, 1st Grade (Afterschool Main Site) 🌟
We are excited to celebrate Ashley as our Employee of the Week! Ashley has been with us for nearly two years, and during that time, she has consistently gone above and beyond to create engaging, thoughtful lesson plans that inspire her students.
Her dedication to celebrating every milestone her students achieve is truly remarkable, and she ensures that each day is filled with a balance of fun and learning. Ashley’s focus on creating an inclusive and exciting learning environment has made her a beloved teacher among both her students and colleagues.

Spring is in full bloom, and our preschool families have been busy with hands-on learning experiences that bring our school community even closer! This month, creativity, storytelling, and cultural celebrations have been at the heart of our activities.
🎨 Family Buildings Unit Home Replica Project 🏠
One of the most exciting projects this month was our Family Buildings Unit Home Replica Project! Families worked together with their children to create model replicas of their homes or favorite buildings in Queens. The creativity and effort put into these projects were absolutely amazing! This hands-on activity gave students a chance to share a special part of their world with their classmates and teachers.
📖 Mystery Reader & Special Family Moments ❤️
In Mystery Reader Activities, where families were invited to read aloud to our students. It was a wonderful way to share the love of books and learning! Plus, we had the incredible honor of welcoming home two parents who were recently deployed—it was a truly special reunion in their child’s classroom.
🌍 One Community, Many Cultures – A Special Event! 🍽️
We are excited to invite all our families to our upcoming event:

Join us for One Community, Many Cultures: Taste, Learn, and Connect! Families will bring a dish from their culture, and we’ll provide food as well. Plus, students will have the opportunity to showcase their amazing projects! It will be a beautiful evening of food, learning, and community. We can’t wait to celebrate with you! 🎊

🏫 Main Site – Afterschool Program
March was a month full of learning, celebration, and fun! 🎉 Our students had a fantastic time honoring Women’s History Month, where they learned about influential women who have shaped history and made lasting impacts on the world. They also explored the meaning and importance of Eid and St. Patrick’s Day, engaging in exciting activities that helped them appreciate different cultures and traditions.
As we welcome April, we are looking forward to celebrating Earth Day! 🌍🌱 Students will participate in hands-on projects that highlight the importance of taking care of our planet, from recycling challenges to planting activities and creative arts and crafts that inspire environmental awareness. Together, we will explore how small actions can lead to a greener and healthier world for future generations.
🚨 Reminder: We will be offering TGIF from April 14th to the 16th! This is an extended-day program available from 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM—and the best part? It’s open to all children, whether they attend 82nd Street Academics or not! This is a great opportunity for kids to engage in fun, structured activities while giving families extra support during these days.

🦁 Afterschool at PS 280 – Home of the Lionhearts! 💙✨
🌸 Springtime at 82nd Street Academics @ PS280! 🌸
As spring arrives, so does a wave of excitement and energy at our PS280 location! Our students are making the most of the beautiful weather, taking their learning outside and engaging in fun, hands-on activities. Here’s a look at some of the wonderful things happening this month at PS280:
🌞 Outdoor Fun & Learning
With the spring sunshine upon us, many of our students are heading outdoors to enjoy some fresh air and exercise. From team-building games to outdoor chalk art, it’s all about fun and fitness while making learning an interactive experience.
🎨 Creative Art Activities
Our students have been busy exploring their artistic talents! This month, in celebration of St. Patrick's Day, we created some festive crafts. Here are a few highlights:
- Teddy Bear Creations: Students designed and decorated their own stuffed teddy bears, adding unique colors and patterns. A perfect blend of art and hands-on crafting!
- Tie-Dye Shirts: A fun tie-dye project allowed students to make their personalized colorful shirts, mixing their favorite shades for one-of-a-kind designs.
- Pots of Gold Crafts: In honor of St. Patrick's Day, our younger learners created their own pots of gold at the end of the rainbow – bright, fun, and full of imagination!
➗ Math Fun for Older Grades
Our older students are gearing up for the state tests, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t having fun with math! We’ve incorporated interactive games like Kahoot! and Math Jeopardy into our study routines, ensuring that learning remains exciting and engaging while reinforcing key concepts.
🌟 Spring Break Program
We’re thrilled to offer our All-Day Spring Break Program from April 14th to 18th, running from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This program is packed with outdoor activities, creative arts, games, and more—giving students a chance to continue learning while having fun during their break. It promises to be a week full of memories and laughter!

🌸 Exciting Updates from Hunters Point! 🌸
As we welcome the vibrant season of spring, April is shaping up to be a busy and exciting month at Hunters Point Community Middle School (HPCMS)!
🏐 Volleyball Season Begins!
We’re thrilled to kick off volleyball season on April 4th! This year, we’re hosting both boys’ and girls’ teams, and participation is open to 82nd Street after-school students as well as non-82nd Street students from HPCMS. We can’t wait to see our student-athletes hit the court and showcase their teamwork and skills!
🎓 College Trip for 8th Graders
During Spring Break, our 82nd Street 8th graders will have a special opportunity to visit a college campus and gain valuable insight into higher education. This trip is designed to inspire and prepare our students as they look ahead to their future academic journeys.
📚 State ELA Testing
Right after Spring Break, students will be focusing on their State ELA tests. We encourage all of our students to stay focused, do their best, and take advantage of any available study resources as they prepare for these important assessments.
🌷 Spring Break – Time to Recharge!
Of course, Spring Break is also a much-needed time for rest and rejuvenation for both students and teachers alike! We hope everyone enjoys their time off and returns refreshed for an exciting finish to the school year.

On April 15th, our 8th, 9th, and 10th graders from Renaissance 1 will be heading to Columbia University for a campus tour! This exciting trip gives students the opportunity to explore one of the nation's prestigious universities and learn about the college experience firsthand. It's a great chance for them to envision their own futures and start thinking about higher education options. We’re looking forward to this inspiring visit!

Spring Break Alert: No School at Renaissance Charter School 2!
Spring Break is here, and there will be no school from April 14th to April 18th. But don't worry – we've got a fun-filled solution for your child! While school may be out, our TGIF Program will be running during this time, offering a safe, engaging, and enjoyable experience for your child.
Our TGIF Program is packed with exciting activities, including arts and crafts, games, sports, and outdoor adventures. It’s the perfect way for students to stay active, creative, and social during the break. Whether your child enjoys making crafts or playing team-building games, they will have a blast and make lasting memories with friends.
