Principal's Message
Dear Duniway School Community,
What a perfect day for a parade. We are deeply grateful to everyone in our Duniway School Community who turned up today to cheer our students on Reed College Place. Your presence and support made the Duniway Parade, a school tradition, a joy to witness, with our students taking part and the Sellwood Marching Band joining us. We were thrilled to have David Ashton from The Bee and PPS join us to document this memorable event. Look for this coverage online and on social media.
Congrats to our 5th graders! You've made it to your last week of elementary school. We look forward to our 5th grade clap-out and moving-up ceremony on Friday, June 14th!
Thank you to everyone who generously volunteered for the PTA carnival tonight. Your dedication and support are truly appreciated. As I write this, I am anticipating the cold water of the dunk tank running down my neck. It should be a fantastic night and a fun event. I look forward to seeing you there.
Lastly, PPS will announce the new principal of Duniway early next week. I am excited about this and to partner with them to make the transition smooth.
Have a great weekend, and can you believe there is one more week until summer break?!

Summer Dates for Incoming Kindergarten Students
July 13 and August 17 - Summer Family Connect Event
- The PTA will be hosting a gathering for families with incoming kindergarten students from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the Duniway playground.
August 27 and August 28 - Family Conversations
- Teachers will be reaching out in late August to schedule individual in-person family conversations. You and your child will have a chance to look around the classroom and talk to the teacher in a one-to-one setting.
August 29 and August 30 - Ramp Up Days
- Prior to the first day of school, your student will have a chance to come in for one full-day “warm up” on either Thursday, August 29th or Friday, August 30th. This is a great opportunity for your child to be with a small group of peers, practice a day with their teacher, and start to become familiar with the Kindergarten routine. Because teachers plan for individual students, they are not able to switch Ramp Up days. Please mark your calendars:
- August 29th: Students who meet the teacher on August 27th will attend 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- August 30th: Students who meet the teacher on August 28th will attend 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
