Mustang Flyer
October 10, 2024
~ Notes From Mrs. Richardson ~
It's finally starting to feel like fall (at least in the AM)! I'm so excited for all of our fall events coming up! BIG thanks to our 5th Grade Farewell parents who worked so hard to create a beautiful float for our 5th graders to ride in the Roswell Youth Day parade. I know the students had a blast and created memories they won't soon forget. Upcoming fall school events include
10/18-5th Grade Dance!
10/30-6 pm Mustang Meet Up (Parent meeting-see flyer below)
10/31-Book Character Dress Up Day
11/8-Fall Family Movie Night (Minions Return of Gru)
11/21 (K,2,4) & 11/22 (1,3,5)-Grandparents Day Lunch
12/12-Family Math Night
Additional details will be shared about each event, but for now, save the dates! It's always SO fun to see the kids enjoying themselves with school friends at our school events. I hope your families can all join us! Don't forget, Fulton's Fall Break for students is October 14-16. We hope your family has a safe and enjoyable break!
The PBIS Store is Open for Business!
Students may now spend the points they've earned for staying on the TRAIL at the PBIS store. We've mobilized the store with a fancy cart full of fun prizes. The cart will visit each grade level regularly and we will add prizes and experiences as the year continues. Enjoy a few fun photos of students shopping below! Congrats to all of our Mustangs for staying on the TRAIL and being recognized for their positive behavior and choices. BIG Thanks to MPE's School Governance Council for providing the funding to purchase the PBIS store prizes!

Red Ribbon Week
The Red Ribbon Week Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation. During the week of October 28th- November 1st we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week. This year’s theme is “Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free”. Here at MPE we want to focus on healthy choices we can make every day to promote a healthy mind and body. Throughout the week of October 28th- November 1st there will be various themed activities for your child to participate in, one of these activities includes dress up days throughout the week. Please see the flyer below for the themes. Additionally, students throughout the month will be learning about healthy choices during their guidance lesson.
Mustang Meet Up
I'm excited to introduce a new way to deepen our community connections. This year we will offer Mustang Meet Ups. Meet ups are intended to provide an opportunity for parents to connect with each other, as well as school administration and discuss pertinent school topics. The first meet up will be hosted at Brookfield Clubhouse. All families are welcome regardless of neighborhood of residence. Our next meet ups will be hosted on January 22 (location TBD) and March 19 at Panera Bread.
I have invited FCS School Police to attend our October meet up. I haven't yet received confirmation, but am hopeful someone will be able to attend.

Reflections Competition
The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Georgia PTA cultural arts competition. Since 1969, over 10 million students across the nation have taken part in this popular PTA program. To participate in the MPE Reflections Exposition please fill out your students' entry form located on
fillable-student-entry-form_reflections.pdf (pta.org)
The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works. The excitement and enthusiasm that the program generates for students, parents, schools and communities is unmatched with the majority of Georgia PTAs participating in the program at all PTA levels.
That’s why the Reflections Program provides an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to:
- Unleash their creative talents and be inspired
- Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
- Experience the joy and fun of making art
- Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
- Receive positive recognition for their original works of art
Mountain Park is excited to be participating in the Reflections competition this year! If your child is interested in Visual Art, Music, Dance, Film, Photography, or Writing, this competition is for them! Students K-5 may submit works in as many categories as they wish. MPE students will showcase their works in November at Mountain Park School. Two winners from each grade in every category will advance to the District level! LET’S GET CREATIVE!
We are looking for a few individuals who can assist with the Reflections Showcase in November at MPE and for any parents or community members in the arts fields to volunteer as judges.
Creative Minds Club
In the Creative Minds Art Club, we champion the artist in everyone. Our mission is to inspire confidence in artistry and reveal the magic of creation.
Students will come into a WORKING ARTIST STUDIO where they will learn techniques for their OWN creations. Some projects will be teacher-led, but the goal is to allow students to find their inspiration and create from there — we value process and experimentation over final products, because that’s where real learning and creativity lie.
Classes are limited to 10 so that each student receives 1:1 time working on their projects.
In the Creative Minds Art Club, it’s more than just an art project, you'll leave with a sense of accomplishment and newfound confidence. Link - https://paulambrett.com/creativeminds-art-club

On-Site Counseling Services at Mountain Park
My name is Samantha Scalabrino, and I am a licensed therapist with The Summit Counseling Center. I work at Mountain Park to provide private, individual counseling to students in need. I have worked as a therapist for 20 years and have previous experience working in schools for children with behavioral difficulties and with special needs.
Students who use my services have a wide range of needs: they may be experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, thoughts of self-harm, and/or behavioral challenges. They may need to learn skills to help with their emotional regulation, manage their ADHD, navigate family transitions such as a divorce or death, or deal with peer conflict/bullying. Students are conveniently seen at school for their sessions, so caregivers do not have to worry about making the time to take them to an appointment.
The first two intake sessions—one with the parent and one with the student—are free of charge. Summit provides financial assistance to families who qualify for extra support and matches insurance rates. Please reach out if you think your child would benefit from counseling and would like more information. My email address is sscalabrino@summitcounseling.org. You can also call Summit directly at 678-893-5300 and visit our website at Mental Health Help in Schools | The Summit Counseling Center.
