A MESSAGE FROM MR. BOWEN
Dear Titan Families,
As we move into February, we want to address some common challenges our students face during these winter months and share some helpful tips.
Attendance Matters
We've noticed that the cold, dark winter days can make it difficult for students to maintain regular attendance and punctuality. However, being present and on time each day is crucial for your child's educational success. We appreciate your help in making this a priority.
Supporting Your Student's Well-being
To help your student stay motivated and healthy, consider reviewing these key aspects of their daily routine:
- Sleep schedule: Is your child getting enough regular sleep?
- Nutrition: Are they eating balanced meals throughout the day?
- Physical activity: Are they getting 30-60 minutes of exercise daily?
- Screen time: Do they take regular breaks from electronic devices?
- Study habits: Is there a set time for completing homework and assignments?
Establishing good routines in these areas can significantly improve your student's academic performance and overall well-being. Our school staff is here to help if you need support in developing these healthy habits.
Tardy Policy
We have adjusted the tardy policy to the following:
-1st & 2nd tardy = warning
-3rd tardy= email home, lunch detention
-4th-9th tardy=lunch detention
-10th tardy=call home, (in-school suspension)
The vast majority of our students are able to get to their classes on time while finding a way to schedule in water and bathroom breaks. If your student struggles with tardies, we encourage them to talk less, make a plan to have what they need for the next class, and take advantage of using the facilities before school, at lunch or after school. They will of course be allowed to use the bathroom if needed or get a drink of water upon teacher approval during class, but we try to limit the number of distractions during instructional time.
Student Responsibility Classroom (SRC)
When students interfere with the learning, safety or well-being of others after multiple reminders (classroom directions, notice 1, notice 2), they are sent to the student responsibility classroom. They complete a form reflecting on the behaviors leading up to the SRC referral and they create a plan to correct the behavior. A phone call home is made to inform parents/guardians of the unexpected behaviors and then the student presents the completed form to the teacher who referred them to the SRC to sign off on the plan.
Sometimes the SRC room can be quite busy. If a student is in the SRC and they cannot meet the expectations of the SRC (which are posted and reviewed upon a students arrival) or a student's behavior escalates in the SRC, they are referred to administration. Administration determines the next layer of progressive discipline which usually begins with the student serving an in-school suspension or out-of-school suspension depending on the severity of the behavior or the number of times the behavior has happened.
Sincerely,
Brandt Bowen
