I hope this message finds you well and that your family is settling into the school year smoothly. It’s hard to believe we’re already approaching such important milestones in the year, and we’re excited to share what’s ahead this week!

State SGA Testing
State SGA testing begins this week, and we want to ensure all students are well-prepared. On Tuesday, students will be taking the Math SGA, and on Thursday, they will take the Reading SGA. Testing will start promptly at 8:45 AM. Please help us by making sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before and arrives at school on time. If your student arrives late, they will need to make up the test on another day, as testing cannot be interrupted once it begins.

Additionally, if you have any appointments scheduled on these days, please let the front office know so we can plan an alternate testing time. To ensure all devices are ready, students will leave their Chromebooks and chargers at school on Monday night for charging. Please remind your child to bring their charger to school on Monday.

Picture Day
Mark your calendars! Picture day will be on September 16th. Information about orders will be sent home this Friday, September 13th.

Parent Advisory Meeting
Our next Parent Advisory meeting will take place on September 18th at 5:00 PM. We’re thrilled to have some of our talented band students perform at the start of the meeting! The topic will be "Plugged In Parents: Keeping Kids Safe and Healthy in the Digital Age." We hope you can join us for this important and informative discussion.

5 Star Celebration
Our first 5 Star Celebration was a huge success, and many students are eagerly awaiting the next one! We are pleased to announce that we’ve been able to use some of the proceeds from the last event toward student supplies and an upcoming behavior reward field trip. The next 5 Star Celebration will be on September 27th, and as a reminder, students must be in good standing (no suspensions of any kind) to participate.

SGA Testing September 10th and 12th

• Did you learn something you didn't understand?

Our SEL curriculum is currently focusing on building student self awareness. One way to help your child grow in this area is to use many different words to describe your own emotions around your child. For example, instead of saying “I’m happy we all get to spend the weekend together” try using a word like “grateful” or “thankful” or “glad.” Exposing your child to more words can help build their emotional vocabulary. Sean Slade, director of the Whole Child Initiative at the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, recommends also sharing the reasons behind your feelings. By explaining what makes you tick, you are modeling self-awareness and showing how other people’s actions can affect your moods.
