MAP Growth Newsletter Information
2024-2025
MAP Growth is the ASD and State of Alaska required benchmark/interim reading and mathematics assessment for students in grades 3-9. Grades 10-12 students identified as needing Tier II and Tier III reading and mathematics support also take MAP Growth as part of the Anchorage School District's MTSS framework.
Alaska's Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) has partnered with NWEA to implement a creative approach to a balanced statewide assessment that connects fall and winter MAP Growth benchmark/interim assessments and the Alaska spring AK STAR summative assessment. AK STAR eliminates the spring benchmark/interim assessment window for grades 3-9 by combining the summative and benchmark assessment into one test that produces a spring benchmark score, which includes a growth measure. More information is available at the State of Alaska AK STAR website, education.alaska.gov/assessments/akstar.
MAP Growth is an online, adaptive assessment that provides each student a personalized testing experience with data that speaks to their individual progress and growth in mathematics and reading.
The MAP Growth reading and mathematics benchmark will be administered in person during the 2024-2025 fall and winter benchmark windows. The spring benchmark will be embedded in the AK STAR summative assessment as outlined above.
Fall Benchmark 1: September 3 - September 13 (make-ups through September 20)
Winter Benchmark 2: December 2 - December 13 (make-ups through December 19)
Spring Benchmark 3: embedded in AK STAR administered during the summative assessment window: March 24 - April 4 (make-ups through April 25)
MAP Growth assessment only: Grades 10-12 identified as needing Tier II and III support
MAP Growth practice tests and tutorials allow students and families the opportunity to become familiar with the types of questions and tools available on the actual MAP Grow assessments such as the highlighter and calculator. An overview of these resources with links to the practice tests are compiled on the MAP Growth Practice Tests Quick Sheet.

YEARBOOK NEWS!
If you have not picked up your 2023-2024 yearbook yet, please do so immediately. You can email handeland_mackenna@asdk12.org if you or your student is no longer enrolled at Chugiak, otherwise current students can stop by room 204 to pick it up. Books not picked up by September 3rd will be resold to students on the waitlist.
Thank you to everyone who signed up for the waitlist to get a 2024 yearbook. We have sold all of our few extra copies to the students in the class of 2024 who were on the waitlist before school ended in May. Starting next week, we will reach out to students who are class of 2025, 2026, and 2027 in the order they signed up and offer to sell them one of the "abandoned" books. If you receive an email or a phone call, please be prepared to pick up your book and complete your payment within three business days, so that we can move down the waitlist if you no longer want or need a book.
The 2025 Yearbook is now for sale online! Go to yearbookforever.com to purchase. Avoid heartbreak and purchase now. We expect to sell out again this year.
The staff has an awesome theme chosen and is excited to announce it soon. This year's book will be our biggest yet, and will include a spring delivery with a fall supplement that covers spring sports and activities, as well as graduation.
The updated school store now also has an option to donate a yearbook more easily. If you would like to donate a yearbook to a student in need, check out yearbookforever.com and search for "Chugiak" to get more details.
Drama, Debate, and Forensics will have an informational meeting on Wednesday, August 28th at lunch to compare schedules and determine our practice times for the 2024-2025 season. Our first practices will begin the week of September 3rd. Chugiak is hosting the first tournament of the season, on September 27-28th!
Please complete your golden ticket process through planeths.com if you are ready to get the season started! Questions? Contact Mr. Templeton in Activities for info on signing up and eligibility, and contact Ms. Handeland or Ms. Miller, the coaches for info about practice times, commitment, and culture.
