Summit Report
Seattle Hill Elementary | April 25, 2024
A note from Principal Mica Harasek
Dear families,
I hope this notes finds you well as we approach the end of the school year. May 6 marks the beginning of Staff Appreciation week, and we are looking forward to celebrating our incredible teachers and staff who work tirelessly to support our students.
As SBA testing season is also upon us, I want to remind parents of some ways you can help your children prepare. Please make sure to get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time. Encourage them to do their best and remind them that their worth is not measured by a test score. We believe in their abilities and know they will persevere through this challenge.
Our new BMA theme for May is perseverance, and we will be focusing on the importance of not giving up, even when faced with obstacles. I encourage you to reinforce this message at home by praising your child's efforts, no matter the outcome, and reminding them that growth comes from perseverance.
Thank you for your continued support as partners in your child's education. Together , we can help them succeed and thrive.
Warmly,
Mica Harasek

Placement for 24-25
It is time to start thinking ahead to next year — specifically, student placement for the coming school year.
If you have feedback on your student's placement, please email Principal Harasek (at mica.harasek@sno.wednet.edu) about your student's needs. This may include your student's social emotional, academic, or instructional needs. No matter what the need is, we will make sure the information is considered during our placement meetings.
Please keep in mind, that we cannot take teacher requests by name as there is no way to ensure everyone would get their desired educator. We can, however, consider the needs of your child and how their needs align with the strengths of our educators.
Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education!
Will you be returning?
In an effort to ensure our classrooms are properly staffed for the upcoming school year, we are requesting all families complete this form by Wednesday, May 15. Thank you for your help!

Attendance procedures and reporting
An absence will be considered excused when a written note or phone call is received from a parent/guardian to the school attendance line/office within 48 hours of the absence. When reporting an absence, either in writing, email or by telephone, please leave the following information:
Student name and grade level
Dates and times of absence
Reason for absence
How to report your child’s absence:
Leave a message on our attendance line at 360-563-4683
Dedicated attendance email at SH-attendance@sno.wednet.edu
Parents/guardians may also notify the school of a child’s absence through Skyward/Family Access. Be sure you are using your parent/guardian login. Go to the Attendance tab of the portal and input your child’s absence information under the Absence Request section.
A child's daily, on-time attendance is important to his/her success in school. Did you know that as early as elementary school, students who miss just two days per month (which amounts to 18 or more days in a school year) are more likely to fall behind and less likely to graduate high school?

Medication pick up
Please make sure you plan ahead for picking up any student medications on the last day of school. Medications that are not picked up, will be safely disposed of. No medications can be held by the school over summer break.
7th grade Tdap booster shot requirement
All students entering 7th grade must have a Tdap shot before they can start school in September 2024.
For students in 7th grade, the Tdap vaccine must be given at or after age 10 to be accepted for school entry. If your child is in 6th grade and already received this booster, their immunizations are complete. The middle school nurse may need medical verification when this vaccine was given. If your child receives this booster over the summer, please bring the record to the nurse at registration in August 2024. It is good to keep a copy of immunizations for your records.
Please note, the Tdap shot is different from the Td shot. If your child receives the Td shot, that vaccination is not in compliance with Washington immunization requirements, and they will need to receive the Tdap shot, as well, before the first day of school.
- Please click here for additional information about state vaccine requirements.
- Please click here to access the Washington State Department of Health Personal/Religious Certificate of Exemption.
Please remember, these immunizations are not just a good idea – they are required by Washington state law for school attendance.

Author Visit with Cynthia Lord
On Wednesday, April 10th, we had the privilege of hosting Cynthia Lord, the author of our All School Read, Because of the Rabbit. She led three assemblies over the course of the day. It was so much fun getting to hear about her writing process and learning more about the bunnies that she and her family have fostered over the years.
A special thanks goes out to our fabulous PTO who helped with paying for the books for the All School Read and the presentation. We couldn’t have had such an amazing experience without their support!
