Principal's Message
Note from Mrs. Lockwood
Another great week of teaching and learning! 2nd grade enjoyed a wonderful field experience at Woodland Gardens this week. Learning indeed happens beyond the walls of our building.
Families, thank you for your support in ensuring students arrive at school on time. Please continue to help us with this initiative. In the coming weeks, I will provide school-wide tardy data in my newsletter to encourage continued support.
Next Friday, I will host my first Coffee Chat of the year. Join me immediately following Community Circle. I look forward to sharing the overall good work happening at Clairemont including our achievement data, and instructional priorities. Following my Coffee Chat, our Title 1 teacher, Ms. Stacey Labouchere will host a Title 1 parent information session. I hope to see you there!
Parents and guardians, please be sure to check the Parent Portal today at 4:00 PM for your child's first progress report of the school year. This is a great opportunity to review their academic progress and stay informed about their achievements and areas for growth. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher.
Finally, I want to create awareness about new road safety measures shared by the City of Decatur Police Department. To ensure safe daily arrival and departure for our Clairemont students, cameras in some school zones throughout CSD will be installed. Pertaining to Clairemont, a camera will be added at the intersection of Clairemont Ave & Church St. Starting October 14th, if drivers travel above the 25 mph speed limit during designated times of the school day, a warning will be issued. Starting November 13th, speeding citations will be issued.

Book Fair and Read-a-Thon are here!
Fall 2024 Read-A-Thon starts on Saturday!
Each fall and spring Clairemont holds a Read-a-Thon where the goal is for your child to read as
many minutes as possible read each day. Any minutes read count – they can be minutes children
read to themselves or minutes that someone else reads to them! Each morning, the minutes from
the day before are counted and the classes from each grade that read and participate the most
will be announced to the whole school as the winners! The winning teachers will get the honor of
wearing a special reading cape the rest of the day!
The Fall 2024 Read-a-Thon starts on SATURDAY October 12 th and continues through minutes read
on Thursday October 17 th ! Your children will log their minutes on paper logs that you will receive
in your folders on Thursday.
Read-a-Thon is also one of the biggest fundraisers for the PTA. Funds that are raised help support
student activities, field trips, and fun upcoming community events such as Family Literacy Night,
Spring Carnival, Field Day, and more. Your child can ask family, friends, and neighbors to sponsor
them to encourage them to read as much as possible during Read-a-Thon. Sponsors can choose to
donate a flat amount or make a pledge to donate a certain amount for every minute read. If a
sponsor pledges to donate per minute, at the end of the week your child can tell them how many
minutes they read and the sponsor can donate the final amount. Pledge sheets will come home
on Thursday. You can send your sponsors the link or QR code below to make a donation, or
donations can be made via check made out to “Clairemont Elementary PTA.” If donating by check,
please have your child bring the check to school to give to their teacher:
