A Note from the Principal
Dear North Harford Middle School Parents,
We hope this message finds you well as we transition into fall.
As a school, we continue to focus on improving our school attendance. Students should be in school every day except when they are sick. Strong attendance has a proven impact on school success. Our education program is built on the premise that consistent attendance is vital to a studentโs success in the classroom. Chronic absence-missing 10 percent or more of school days for any reasonโcan translate into missed social interaction in addition to classroom instruction and discussion.
As a friendly reminder, I ask that you find time in your busy schedule to complete the FY 2026 Budget Input Survey: https://www.hcps.org/superintendent/stateofthedistrict.aspx

Importance of being in School
We want to instill good habits while students are in the middle school that will transfer to success at the high school and beyond. So, all students and parents are asked to keep track of their school attendance and are reminded that a total of 18 days absence and greater for a school year is considered chronic absenteeism and could have negative effects on academics and eligibility.
Whether excused or unexcused, a total of 18 days absence and greater for a school year can/will affect the ability to have dual enrollment classes paid for and internship/apprenticeship opportunities.
Questions on attendance? Please reach out to NHMS administration. Sending in an absence note feel free to email. Megan.Johnson@hcps.org

Upcoming NHMS Events
Can Tab Drive
The Ronald McDonald House in Baltimore is a place that provides comfort for children and their families who are facing illness and staying in Baltimore hospitals. The House gives them a place to stay and food to ear so that families don't have to worry about another bill. This year Hawks Council will be supporting the Ronald McDonald House in Baltimore by collecting and donating can tabs. This will help provide transportation for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Thank you for your support!
Project Comfort, Inc.
Looking for a way to give back this holiday season? Please join STARS Club in spreading warmth and joy this holiday season by participating in Project Comfort.
Project Comfort, Inc., is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing comfort, care, and connection to seniors in nursing homes, particularly those facing profound isolation.
Our blanket drive aims to spread warmth and joy by providing each senior with a cozy blanket, a handwritten card, and, most importantly, a visitor.
Did you know 60% of nursing home residents do not receive a single visitor? You can make a difference! This initiative simply requires spreading the word and collecting blankets or creating cards. All donations are to be dropped off at NHMS no later than November 29th. Thank you!
