SWWC STUDENTS AT WORK!
A Cadet Teacher in Action!
Madison Esterline, a dedicated second-year student in the SWWC Careers in Education program, is showcasing her natural gift for teaching! Here she's engaging her second-grade class with an interactive lesson she prepared on verbs. 🎉 Her passion for education shines through, and we can't wait to see her thrive as an elementary teacher after graduation! 📚✨
Cosmetology Students Demonstrate Their Skills!
Huron Valley Beauty Academy students participated in the Regional SkillsUSA competitions this month. Eight students traveled to Oakland School Tech Center NE to compete in Cosmetology and Esthetics.
Congratulations to the following students:
- Ava Swaney (Milan) won first place for Cosmetology (Senior division).
- Christy Mazur (Chelsea) won first place and Tamelah Hamilton (Milan) took third place for Cosmetology Mannequin (Junior division).
Video News Production Student Learns The Ropes!
Video News Production (VNP) senior Cody Stedman had an early morning on February 14th. He recently job shadowed Jason Colthorp at Local 4 in Detroit for the morning recordings. Cody gained invaluable hands-on experience regarding what being a news anchor entails along with a scriptwriter. Cody also observed Mr. Colthorp give the daily news on Local 4 during the 5 a.m., 6 a.m., and 7 a.m. shows. He also participated in some interview questions for Flashpoint 2/14/25, and observed how the morning team of producers, anchors, and reporters meet and recommend ideas for news packages. What a fantastic experience! 🤩
What is the SWWC?
The South & West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC) provides Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities to 11th and 12th grade students enrolled in the Chelsea, Dexter, Lincoln, Manchester, Milan, and Saline school districts. Approximately 1000 students participate in our state-approved CTE programs as they continue to plan and prepare for college and career.
On behalf of the thirty-eight SWWC staff members, we welcome you to the 24/25 school year! Thank you for enrolling in one of our twenty-three Career and Technical Education classes offered at Chelsea, Dexter, and Saline High School, as well as our off-site locations specifically for Cosmetology and Building Trades. We are excited to have you in the consortium!
