AEHS Weekly Newsletter
September 8th, 2024
Good evening, Titan Community,
I hope everyone is having a great weekend and has settled into the new school year. Believe it or not, interims are right around the corner. Interim grades will be submitted on September 27. Please check ParentVue and reach out to teachers if you have any questions regarding your student's classes.
In this week's Newsletter, we have shared an overview of the Emergency Preparedness Drills we will be conducting throughout the year. More information on how students will be prepared to execute these drills will be provided in next week's letter.
Your feedback is vital to our improvement, and we appreciate those who have responded to our Back to School Night survey. The survey is still available for responses below.
We will be holding a Club Fair on Thursday, September 19 during lunch on Main Street. This is an opportunity to promote our clubs, help students gather information, and most importantly, guide students toward joining a club. If you have a student interested in starting a club, have them see Ms. McKenzie in the main office to learn how to complete a Club Proposal Form. We encourage all of our students to get involved with extracurricular activities. Clubs are a great way to create lasting memories. To view the club list, click HERE.
This month, we are celebrating Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month. Check out our Celebration Calander to see what we have planned.
Also, the Weekly Newsletter will now include SSL opportunities and updates. If your student is interested in earning hours, please use the resource links provided.
Lastly, please see the message below from our PTSA President, Ms. Ann Salzman. We will be having our first PTSA meeting on Tuesday, September 17 at 7:00 pm. Join us virtually through Zoom to get updates, engage in discussion, and meet our PTSA Board Members and Committe Chairs.
Best,
Justin Krop
Principal Intern

How Did We Do?
Hello Titan families, we would like to hear from you! For those of you that attended Back To School night we would love to hear your thoughts. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey.
Hispanic Heritage Month (NEW)
Dear Titan Community
Today is the first day of Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, and we are excited to celebrate Hispanic and Latinx communities' rich history, culture, and contributions. At our school, where diversity is our strength, this month offers a wonderful opportunity for all of us to learn from one another and honor the vibrant traditions that shape our world.
Why We Celebrate:
Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 to October 15, recognizes the achievements of Hispanic Americans who have influenced our country’s history and culture. From the arts and sciences to politics and education, Hispanic individuals have made lasting contributions that continue to shape our society. Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in a diverse school like ours helps us appreciate the beauty of different cultures and build a stronger, more inclusive community.
AEHS Celebration Calendar for Hispanic Heritage Month by Paula Pero
How We Can Honor Hispanic Heritage Month:
- Learn and Share: Learn about Hispanic history, culture, and leaders. Share what you learn with friends and family.
- Celebrate the Arts: Enjoy Hispanic and Latinx music, literature, films, and art. Visit cultural exhibits, read books by Hispanic authors, or listen to music from various Hispanic countries.
- Support Hispanic-Owned Businesses: Explore local restaurants, stores, and businesses owned by Hispanic community members.
- Participate in School Events: Join us for a variety of activities and events to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month here at school.

Athletics: (UPDATED)
Eligibility Policy for Athletics (REPEAT)
Please help us hold our Titan student-athletes accountable by taking accurate attendance. According to MCPS athletics rules:
ATTENDANCE:
- Participation in any athletic event or practice requires student-athletes to attend all of their scheduled classes on the day of the event or practice. Student-athletes who have pre-scheduled activities, such as a medical appointment, court appearance, driver's exam, or religious observance, will be permitted to participate in events/practices on the day of the absence, provided approval for the absence has been granted in advance. The athletics specialist in each school will establish a procedure for obtaining this approval and for handling unforeseen emergencies. Prior approval is not necessary for approved school activities. Student-athletes who have an excused absence on Friday may participate in athletic events on Saturday.
- A student-athlete who is absent from any class without obtaining prior approval may not participate in practices or contests on the day they are absent.
- Student-athletes who do not obtain prior approval and do practice will not compete in the first contest after the violation is verified.
- A student-athlete may not compete in the first scheduled contest after an unexcused absence is verified.
- Repeated unexcused absences or chronic tardiness to any class will be sufficient reason for declaring a student ineligible at any time.
ACADEMIC:
- A student must maintain a minimum 2.0 unweighted marking period grade average with no more than one failing grade in a marking period in order to participate in any athletic contests or to participate in or attend any practices during the next marking period. This regulation does not apply to students who are:
- Entering from a non-MCPS school for the first time; eligibility standards become effective after they complete their initial marking period in MCPS.
- Entering high school for the first time (first time ninth graders); these eligibility standards become effective as of their second year in high school as initially determined by their marking period average in the fourth quarter of their first year of high school.

We can't do those things without your support! The Boosters offers five levels of annual membership - anything $20 or higher includes some swag. We invite you to find the level that suits you and join (or re-join) us at https://aehsboosters.com/join2/!
