Yearbook Cover Contest
Students in Grades 6-12 are invited to enter their art in our yearbook cover contest. The winner will receive a free yearbook and their artwork will be displayed on the front cover! Even if your entry is not used on the cover, it may still be used in other places throughout the book.
You may submit a design that is for the front cover only or a wrap-around spread for both the front and back. Keep in mind that there is a spine roughly half an inch wide that will cut through the middle of a wrap-around design. All entries must be in digital format.
Yearbook Theme:
This year’s book doesn’t have a specific “tag line,” but the cover art should reflect the uniqueness of this school, which is unlike any other.
Tips for a Good Entry:
All entries must include Mt. Everest Academy and the school year 2024-25.
Use lots of color, including the background. Don’t leave much white space.
Do not add text too close to the edges of the page. Leave 1 inch of space around the outside edges with no text, just color/design. This will avoid print issues when the art is applied to the cover.
Submit Your Digital Art:
See this link for the specific dimensions for creating your artwork in programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator or others: size, dimensions and resolutions
Use the specs and templates for an 8 ½ x 11 Hardcover book with 92 pages (Photoshop and inDesign templates available)
Email your file to rfinney@sandi.net
All Entries Due By: January 31, 2025 (end of Month 6)
2024-2025 Yearbook

SDUSD's Environmental Literacy Task Force
SDUSD's Environmental Literacy Task Force is looking for new student members! The Environmental Literacy Taskforce is a coalition of highly driven student activists from schools all around SDUSD. Designed to educate, aid, and elevate every student's activism, ELT provides valuable knowledge and support to its members as they set, execute, and complete a tailored/customized set of environmental goals for their school site. Through educational workshops, team meetings, and real-life activism, the environmental literacy task force will increase environmental action and literacy within the SDUSD and empower student activists to push for the change they want to see.
A member's role within ELT will be as a change maker, and a student.
Responsibilities will include
- Attending our bi-monthly / weekly (pending on availability and needs) meetings
- Coming ready to learn about topics such as professionalism, communications, grassroots activism, and environmentalism.
- Fostering a collaborative community with your fellow school site representatives and members from across the district. These collaborations will include working on selected projects at your school site, submitting progress-check assignments and contributing to our districts supportive network of students preparing for their professional career.
If interested, the link to sign up is in the ELT Instagram bio (@sdusdenviroleaders)! Please access through personal account.

Club News
Join Us for This Week’s Civil Discourse Meeting!
This week, we’ll dive into the complex question: What regulations, if any, should exist for firearms in light of the Second Amendment? While the right to bear arms is enshrined in our Constitution, it’s crucial to consider the limitations that accompany other rights, such as free speech. For instance, you cannot falsely shout "fire" in a crowded theater due to the potential harm it could cause. Should individuals be permitted to create and store weapons of mass destruction in their backyards? What about owning a BB gun? Where should we draw the line when it comes to personal freedom versus public safety?
In our meetings, we create a respectful environment where everyone can share their opinions and learn from each other. Our primary goal is to help students practice summarizing different beliefs, fostering empathy and critical thinking in the process.
To prepare for our discussion, feel free to explore these resources:

We hope to see you there for a thoughtful and engaging conversation! If you have any questions or would like to be added to our email list, please reach out to Indigo at indigoskysong@gmail.com or Henry at henry448852@gmail.com.
