A Note from the Superintendent
We had another eventful week in KFCS. I was privileged to be a judge at our District DECA competition held at OIT. Our students represented our district very well. They dressed professionally including their Blue DECA Blazers and competed at the highest level. The competition was directed very efficiently and effectively by the KU staff members. Our entire community can be proud of hosting this outstanding event.
I was also fortunate to attend the Skyline conference leadership summit held at Phoenix High School. Our students participated in leadership and character-building activities. The summit was extraordinarily successful, and our students took active leadership roles in their groups. To learn more about the OSAA STAR initiative visit the website at http://www.osaa.org/equity/star-resources.
This week we also honored our country's veterans on Veterans Day. Being the son of a United States Marine I personally feel a deep debt of gratitude to all of our veterans for their service that allows us the freedom to live in the most successful democracy in the history of the world. To all our veterans I personally say thank you for your service!
We live in the land of the free because of the brave.
Every student, every day, whatever it takes!

23rd Snowflake Mile Benefitting the KUHS Cross Country & Track Teams
Be a part of the annual Snowflake Mile! It will kick off the Snow-flake Parade on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 6:35 p.m. The race will start at the intersection of Spring and Main, continue down Main Street, and finish at Veteran’s Park.
All race numbers will be handed out at the start of the race at the Klamath County Museum. Each competitor will need a race number to compete!!
THE RACE STARTS AT 6:35 PM SHARP!
If you have warm-up clothes that you don’t wish to run with , a “sweats” drop off will be provided for your convenience at the Muse-um near the starting line. This will be available only until 6:25 pm. Simply place your sweats in a bag that will have your number on it, and leave it at the drop off area. The bags will be transported to the finish line area in Veteran’s Park, and you can pick yours up by showing your race number. (With the weather, however, you may not want to run without your sweats!)
Runners/Walkers under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. To pre-register, fill out the form on the bottom of the page and mail your check according to fees listed. Pre-registering entrants must be postmarked no later than 12/4/2021. Make checks payable to : Klamath Union High School.. All proceeds will go to the Klamath Union XC and track teams.
OHA/UO COVID-19 Voluntary Screening Testing Program
The KFCS has opted into the OHA/UO COVID-19 Voluntary Screening Testing Program. This is an optional, weekly saliva test, via a take-home test kit. Please review this info/registration-flyer for more information. If you’d like to participate, please sign up by completing these two steps:
STEP 1: Complete the UO K-12 Student Information Survey by clicking this link: https://tinyurl.com/k12covidtesting The registration survey can be viewed in English or Spanish. We have a rolling enrollment; students can sign up anytime, ideally before November 20th. Testing can be expected to begin about 1-2 weeks after student sign-up begins.
STEP 2: Complete and return the OHA Consent Form. This form is required for all participating students and must be completed and returned to the DISTRICT OFFICE (1336 Avalon Street) at the start of the program – plan to bring this form on your first test pick up day. If you don’t have a printer, then the District Office can provide a printed copy at test pick up. Schools are required by OHA to retain these consent forms.
Ages 5-14: https://tinyurl.com/OHAconsent5-14

Please contact the testing administrator, Heidi Snodgrass at 541-883-4745 if you have any questions.
Ponderosa Middle School
Our AVID classes are helping Ponderosa work on their volunteering spirit the month of November! This month they are hosting a competition between advisories to collect as much food as possible to create meal kits that will go home to families in need over Winter Break. Help your student's advisory win a Texas Donut by bring in the food item assigned (see picture for list).
Klamath Union High School
Several KUHS student athletic leaders attended the Skyline Conference Leadership Summit today at Phoenix HS. Students from all Skyline Conference schools attended with their principals, athletic directors and superintendents. Proud of these awesome student leaders.
