Spotlight on RMS: Amazing Teaching and Learning in Action!
Bringing History to Life in the Classroom
During a lesson on the English colonial regions, Mr. Esquibel and his dynamic 8th-grade social science class masterfully brought history to life while reinforcing key learning strategies. Students dove into a “See, Think, Wonder” activity, sparking curiosity as they analyzed historical images of life in the New England colonies. The classroom buzzed with energy as students shared their insights with elbow partners during A/B partner discussions.
What made this lesson truly standout was the use of our school-wide annotation strategy, “Number, Circle, Notes.” Mr. Esquibel skillfully modeled this approach, guiding students through the text and showing them how to break down complex information. Students then applied the strategy independently, annotating and sharing their reflections with peers. To top it off, clear learning targets ensured everyone stayed on track, fully grasping the settlers' motivations, economic dynamics, and interactions with Native Americans.
Kudos to Mr. Esquibel for fostering an engaging and collaborative learning environment where students thrive and essential skills are built. This is the kind of teaching that makes RMS a special place for students and staff alike!

DRAMA FUNDRAISER - BUTTER BRAIDS FOR 2024!
Hello, parents and guardians. This year, the Drama Club will be selling the famous Butter Braids for the holiday season.
These delicious pastries come in a variety of scrumptious flavors. Drama students will be asking their friends, family, and teachers to support their club by purchasing one (or two) from them. Students will NOT be allowed to sell door-to-door, so they will be selling on campus or through their family members. Each student will also have a link to their own online store, which they are highly encouraged to share.
The Drama Club has been a key part of Roosevelt for the past few years. On campus, the Drama Clubs hosts the annual Haunted House, a Winter Play, and a Spring Musical. Off-campus, we go on a number of field trips, including competing in the Junior Thespian Festival, visiting High School drama productions, and watching local theater shows.
This year we want to grow our Roosevelt Thespian Troupe #11532.
“The International Thespian Society is the only theatre honor society for middle and high school students in the United States. Affiliation brings credibility and distinction to students, theatre programs, and schools. It is a visible, positive symbol of the quality of your theatre program. Each student is honored on a national level and gains access to opportunities and resources beyond those of their school.”
There is a $17 induction fee for each student. This fundraiser will allow us to induct nearly all of our 50 drama club members, and offer scholarships for the Junior Thespian Festival registration fee (which is $35).
Buy some delicious Butter Braids!
The fundraiser will start Monday Oct 28th, and end Tuesday November 19th.
There are two ways to order.
Drama students will have a paper order form and be collecting cash.
2. You can purchase from our online store HERE. Search for the student you want to support and place your order.
Delivery
All orders will be delivered to the school, frozen, on Monday, December 9th, making these perfect for the holiday period!
Our Drama students and families are so thankful for our school and community support. So many teachers, staff, students, parents, and guardians have come together to help our drama program blossom. Thank you, and let us know if you have any questions!
SPORTS
Thank you to all the Fall Sports Teams and the Coaches for your stellar performance in representing our school.
The cross-country season is over, and we would like to thank Coach Adam Montez and the team for their great performance. Special applause to Javier, who came in second place in the 6/7 grade boys category.
Girls' volleyball performed well this fall season, and we would like to recognize Coach Cassi Monty and both the JV and Varsity teams for their wonderful efforts.
COMMUNITY SCHOOL
Roosevelt Middle School is a community school! A community school is a type of school that goes beyond traditional academic instruction by integrating various community resources, services, and partnerships to support the holistic development and well-being of students, families, and the surrounding community in an equitable way.
The primary goal of a community school is to develop community assets and address the various challenges and barriers that students and families may face, both within and outside the school environment, in order to improve academic achievement and overall life outcomes. This survey will help the Community Schools Advisory Committee to create goals and actions. We would like you to take this opportunity to help us gather information on you and your child’s wants, needs, and dreams by completing this short survey. This survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
