Battle of the Books
Congratulations to the following teams who represented Jackson Middle School at the District Battle of the Books Competition!
ALL THREE Jackson teams were in the top 5 out of 18 teams:
"Graceful Readers" made up of Naeima Ali, Luella Gorman, and Kimber Notvedt made it to Round 19 and question 218.
"The Banana Squad" consisting of Gillian Brinton, Kiera O'Brien, and Anika Sandberg made it to Round 21 and Question 222.
"Nur Drei Verrückte Bandkinder (Just Three Crazy Band Kids) including Turner Moll, and Lucy Wiedenman, which were really only a team of two for the district battle, ended the competition in the TOP 2, making it to Round 23 and Question 233.
Look for next year's BOB List to come out in May so you can get started on reading this summer.

Young Scientist Roundtable
Anoka-Hennepin partners with other districts to bring real-world, working scientists to our students via the Young Scientist Roundtable. This month's event features a presentation entitled "Microbiome: How Gut Microbes Influence our Brain" by Dr. Andres Gomez.
This exciting evening will be on Tuesday, March 19, at the Educational Service Center in Anoka. Any Jackson student that is interested in attending the FREE event should return a permission slip to their science teacher. We will provide a bus to and from the event, leaving JMS at 6pm and returning by 8:20pm.
Click button below for the permission slip.
MCA Testing Coming Up
All JMS students will take the MCA Reading and Math tests to see how much they have learned this year. Our 8th graders will also take the MCA Science test to show their progress in that subject. During testing, students will stay in their first hour classes throughout the morning to finish the test. Please avoid scheduling appointments on these mornings so students can successfully complete the test. Thank you for your help!
MCA Test Dates
April 25 - MCA Reading
April 30 - MCA Math
May 7 - MCA Science (8th grade only)
JMS Observatory
Join us at the JMS Observatory to look at stars, the moon, constellations, and anything else we can find in space. Public viewings will be held , along with special event nights, as long as the sky is clear, when something of interest is happening in the sky above us. Weather is always an issue so if it is cloudy, raining, or snowing, the public viewing will be cancelled. Dress for the weather as the temperature of the dome is the same as that of the outdoors.
Please check the Observatory page on the JMS website at 6 pm on viewing dates to make sure viewing has not been cancelled.
Upcoming dates:
Tuesday, March 19: 8 – 10 pm
Thursday, March 21: 8 – 10 pm
Thursday, April 11: 8 – 10 pm
Tuesday, April 16: 8:30 – 10:30 pm
Thursday, April 18: 8:30 – 10:30pm
