NOVEMBER 5--ELECTION DAY
NO SCHOOL NOVEMBER 5
We hope this message finds you well. We want to inform you of an important update regarding our upcoming Professional Learning Day for staff. Originally scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2024, this day has now been moved to Tuesday, November 5, 2024. This change was approved by the Board in the spring of 2024.
The adjustment was made to accommodate the use of many of our school campuses as polling locations for the presidential election on November 5. With a large voter turnout expected, we believe this change is in the best interest of both safety and community participation. By making this adjustment, we can ensure a smooth Election Day and provide support to Ada County Elections as they manage the polling process.
On November 5, our staff will engage in professional learning activities while our school buildings are being used as polling sites. There will be no school for students in grades Pre-K through 12 on this day, but regular schedules will resume on Wednesday, November 6.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to provide a safe and organized environment for our community.

HALLOWEEN EVENTS
OCTOBER 31st HALLOWEEN COSTUME EXPECTATIONS
On October 31st, costumes may be worn to school. All preparations for the costume must be completed prior to coming to school.
Students will have a walk and view event
Please help us enjoy this day by following the guidelines for costumes:
- Must be able to easily move in the classroom, and student must be able to participate in activities/specials and sit at desk.
- Use restroom without help getting costume on or off.
- No masks, face paint/makeup, or hair coloring (Thank you for helping us keep the walls and desks clean. Student will be asked to wash face if they come to school with face paint/makeup decor.)
- Costumes may NOT include props such as real, replica, or fake weapons of any kind.
- Costumes should not include anything gory, violent, disrespectful or inappropriate. Nor should a costume promote anything illegal.
- Please no inflatable costumes. These cause too much noise in the room.
- No costume may be worn that is unsafe or may create safety hazards.
(If there are questions about your child's costume, please contact your child's teacher or Principal Amy Senethavilay. *Students who do not follow the guideline will be asked to change or a parent will be called to bring appropriate items.)
FALL HARVEST PARTIES
Fall Harvest Celebrations will take place on Thursday, OCTOBER 31st, during a 30-minute time your child's grade level has specified; please see grade level newsletters for the information.
MORE REMINDERS:
NOVEMBER 1--LOST AND FOUND WILL BE DONATED
Due to the large population and lack of space, Lost and Found will be cleared out the last Friday of every month. We will bag and keep for about a week before these are donated. *Water bottles and lunch boxes will be thrown away weekly.
Thank you for helping to check Lost and Found regularly.
VETERAN'S DAY ITEMS
Veterans Day Project
We are once again going to build our Wall of Honor to help celebrate Veterans Day. We would like to honor those family members who have served or who are currently serving. Our staff and students enjoyed this project so much that we want to invite everyone to share their family members with us so that we may recognize and appreciate the service they have given or are currently giving.
Here is a link to the HONORING OUR VETERANS document that you may open and work on at home. Students are welcome to draw pictures or insert a picture into the document. We are accepting these until FRIDAY, November 8.

FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
With cold and flu season upon us, here are some quick reminders for when students should remain home:
- Fever greater than 100.0 degrees: A fever lets us know that our body is fighting an infection. We are contagious during this time and need rest. Students should be fever free for at least 24 hours, without fever reducing medication, before returning to school.
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea: Students should stay home for 24 hours without vomiting diarrhea before returning to school to make sure they can keep food/liquids down.
- Sore throat with a fever greater than 100.0 degrees: Students should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication. If they are diagnosed with Strep throat, then they should stay home until they have been on the prescribed antibiotics and are fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
- Students should stay home if they have a new onset persistent cough in which they are coughing so much it keeps them from participating in class or disrupts their classmates. Student may return when their cough is no longer disruptive to the educational environment and/or the student is cleared to return to school by their health care provider.
*There may be exceptions. Please contact your school nurse with any questions.

ATTENDANCE
New this year, we have an automated system for calls! Don't worry, we are still answering calls as the first option; we know talking to someone right away is important. However, after business hours our phone to immediately change to an automated system. During business hours, the automated voicemail system will pick up after 4 rings, indicating that the front office staff is either on the phone or helping someone in the office.
You will have the option of the following when the automated system answers:
Press 1 for Office
Press 2 for Attendance
Press 3 for Health Office
Press 4 for Transportation
If you are simply calling to report your child's attendance, you may call 208-350-4498.
IF YOUR CHILD IS TO BE ABSENT 3 OR MORE DAYS...
We have shared the importance of daily attendance but know that absences do occur. If your child is going to be absent for more than 2 days, please make sure you connect with the office right away.
To help support their continued learning during this time, we will provide an independent study document for you to sign, along with tasks for your child to complete. Each grade level has prepared a set of assignments for the independent study form. While these assignments do not replace the core instruction your child will miss, they are designed to support their ongoing learning.
Please note, your child will still be responsible for completing any missed work upon their return.
