News
Dear Families,
Tomorrow morning Churchill County School District staff will welcome thousands of students to school. The students will be driven, ride a bus, or walk to school. No matter how they get there, the routine is the same. All students leave the adults who are responsible for their day-to-day well-being and enter our schools where that responsibility shifts and school staff take over and assume that well-being responsibility.
In education, we use the term “in Loco Parentis” which means “in the place of the parent” to explain what happens daily to our children. When your children make that daily transition, school staff take on that responsibility daily for their students.
May 6-10 is Staff Appreciation Week. Please join me this week in recognizing all school staff who work daily to keep your children safe and teach them a wide variety of skills. Please take a moment to say thank you and express gratitude for their work and their willingness to take upon them the “in Loco Parentis” role in your absence.

May 10th - Contingency Day for CCHS❗❗
ATTENTION CCHS FAMILIES
On January 11th, all Churchill County schools were closed due to inclement weather.
ChurchillCSD petitioned the state to allow that day to be covered through excess instruction minutes and not activate a contingency day. This request was approved for all schools except Churchill County High School. CCHS does not have excess minutes available, and therefore, we are required to activate a contingency day for CCHS.
The state has agreed to let us make up this day on Friday, May 10th, rather than Tuesday, May 28th.
On Friday, May 10th, buses will run their routes and pick up high school students only. This day will allow students who need extra assistance with their courses to receive it. We realize this is short notice and we encourage all CCHS students to attend. If students are unable to attend on May 10th, please contact the attendance office to excuse the absence.
**ALL high school students who ride a bus, will be picked up on Friday, May 10th for their contingency day. The transportation blackout schedule will not be in effect on Friday, May 10th!**

FREE SKIN CARE CLINIC on May 7, 2024 in Reno at Greater Nevada Field (Aces Ballpark)
Churchill County School District is committed to protecting the health and safety of students and staff. Students and staff will spend time in the sun before, during school hours, and after school in recreation and sports programs. Nevada weather and environmental conditions can oftentimes be at intensities that may result in negative health consequences, including sunburns. Too much sun exposure can be dangerous. Overexposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation seriously threatens one's health. Children are especially susceptible to harmful UV radiation and childhood exposure and sunburns in childhood are a primary indicator for developing skin cancer later in life. About 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime, despite the preventable nature of the disease (Safe exposure to the sun). This is why I encourage you & your families to attend this FREE SKIN CARE CLINIC on May 7, 2024, from 4-7 pm in Reno at Greater Nevada Field (Aces BallPark). The address is: 250 Evans Ave, Reno, NV 89501.

REQUIRED VACCINES BEFORE ENTERING 12TH GRADE & 7TH GRADE
Meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) REQUIRED BEFORE 12th Grade!
In 2020 Nevada Legislature passed a law that requires students who will be an incoming senior, to have the meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) BEFORE they can start school in the fall. This means that every single current 11th grader has to have this vaccine before they can start 12th grade. This does not apply to any other grade.
Parents can get this vaccine (MCV4) at their doctor's office, pharmacy, or if you don't have insurance or if you have Medicaid, you can get the vaccine from The Central Nevada Health District - call 775-867-8181 for an appointment.
Once your child receives the vaccine, please notify CCHS school nurse Adonna Crowley at crowleya@churchillcsd.com or call her at 775-423-2181 ext. 4124 with the date the vaccine was given. For more information please contact Adonna, or Chief Health Nurse Chassity Mills at 775-423-3463 x 2003.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR 6th GRADE FAMILIES
Dear Parents/Guardians of 6th graders,
All 6th graders must receive the MCV4 (meningococcal) immunization and the Tdap immunization before the start of 7th grade on 12 August 2024. Children will not be allowed to begin 7th grade until there is proof of the immunization being completed.
Parents are encouraged to review their child's shot record and make arrangements with their health care provider for vaccination prior to the busy 'Back to School' season.
Because of the volume of students requiring immunization appointments, you may find it difficult to get an appointment for immunizations over the summer. For those who are uninsured, underinsured, on Medicaid or American Indian/Alaskan Native, you can make an appointment with the Central Nevada Health District community health nurse at (775) 867-8181. You can also get these vaccines from a local pharmacy – just make sure they take your insurance and that they administer the correct vaccines. Listen for announcements about vaccine clinics and ‘back to school’ vaccine clinics.
If you have any questions please contact:
