Principal's Message
Greetings Evergreen Community,
A key action step to one of our school improvement goals this year is to reinvigorate the ways in which we recognize and celebrate students for being their awesome selves. Here is what this effort looks like at the beginning of October.
Evergreens (replacing BOSS Bucks):
Over the past few weeks, students have been earning Evergreens (the new currency system at EMS) for demonstrating the behavior that we expect of students within our community. Last week, the value of Evergreens finally started to be revealed as students were able to spin a prize wheel for 10 Evergreens (pictured below: Ms. Fuglevand and
Mr. Nova making the prize wheel happen). This week, the Student Store reopened allowing students to exchange their Evergreens for a variety of different items. Teachers are also creating systems within their classrooms for students to use their Evergreens to earn different items and activities. For example, students in Mr. Fishback’s classes can turn their Evergreens in to earn prizes as individual classes. We are excited to continue expanding ways that students can use their Evergreens in the coming months.
The Eagles Nest
The Eagles Nest also opened this week with a soft start. The Eagles Nest is a VIP space available to students during lunch that provides access to the courtyard, a ping pong table, corn hole, access to several Xbox systems, comfortable seating, board games, and more (with more to come). On Monday, staff identified students who showcased the character trait of kindness throughout the first four weeks of the school year. Those students received a ticket to the Eagles Nest for both this week and next. Next week, those students will be able to invite a friend with them into the Eagles Nest to share in their awesomeness. We are excited for the Eagles Nest to grow this year and to be able to invite more and more students into the space.
