Dear Coyote Community,

As we approach Veterans Day tomorrow, I’d like to take a moment to honor and thank all current and former military members in our community for their service. This day provides us with an opportunity to recognize those who have dedicated themselves in service to our country.

In this week’s Celebrations section, you’ll find updates on Clarksburg's incredible achievements in recent state-level competitions held over the weekend. We’re proud to say that our Coyotes made their mark, bringing home remarkable results!

With the second quarter underway, I want to remind all students to attend every class, put forth their best effort, and seek support when needed. Remember, help is available before and after school, as well as during lunch. I’m excited to see all of you progress toward earning your credits for the semester, and staying focused now will ensure that success.

Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to host our first BMX Anti-Bullying assembly this Friday. Based on feedback from other schools, we can expect a truly exciting and impactful event that combines high-energy BMX stunts with an important message.

Congratulations to our Girls' Flag Football team on becoming the first-ever state champions for the sport! Our team competed in three challenging games on Friday at Raven's Stadium, ultimately securing the state title with a decisive win over Boonsboro High School. A huge shout-out goes to head coach Mr. Landefeld and the entire coaching staff — Mr. Bassett, Mr. Noland, Ms. Dommel, and Ms. Taylor — for their dedication and hard work in leading our team to victory.

In keeping with the theme of state competition success, congratulations to members of our Cross Country team for representing Clarksburg at the state championships at Hereford High School! Ayaan Ahmad, Dylan Underwood, and Maddy Kelly had outstanding performances. We’re proud to share that both Ayaan and Maddy placed 12th in their respective races, earning the distinguished title of All-State Runners. Well done, team! Thank you to our Cross Country coach, Mr. Trumbull for your dedication to the team.

Congratulations to our Rock Club for hosting their Musical Happy Hour at Comus Inn on Thursday night! The event drew an impressive crowd, and Clarksburg's talented singers, songwriters, and musicians truly shined. It was a wonderful showcase of our students' creativity and skill—well done to everyone involved!

Clarksburg is proud to have a team of staff members participating in the MCPS Well Aware campaign, which encourages building long-lasting healthy habits. Staff involved in the campaign are entered into drawings for both school and individual prizes. Congratulations to Ms. Diaz from our English department for being awarded a $250 school grant, which can be used to support physical activity equipment or to promote staff wellness, along with a personal wellness-related gift card. Well done, Ms. Diaz (and the rest of the team)!

This week, our AP African American Studies students had the opportunity to visit the Glenstone Art Museum, where they enjoyed a private tour with knowledgeable docents. They explored works by prominent African American artists, allowing them to draw meaningful connections between the artwork and their class studies.

• If a minor student is uninsured, they can go to Mary's Center or another clinic while their family works on getting them health insurance through the Maryland Health Connection site and county support office
• If an adult student is uninsured, they can go to a Montgomery Cares clinic; this will also allow them to access specialty care if appropriate
• If a student or sibling attends a school with a School Health Center (typically connected to Linkages to Learning or a Wellness Center), they may be seen at that clinic
