The Viking Spotlight is the part in my weekly newsletter used to highlight and celebrate our students and staff anytime we can! If you would like your child acknowledged for something they have accomplished, whether on campus or off-campus, please feel free to fill out this google form HERE. I look forward to celebrating our Vikings and all of the great things they are doing!

This week's Viking Spotlight members were submitted by our Viking parents! Our first one is 7th grader, Cameron Garrison!! 🤗 Here is what it says:

"Cameron loves sports and basketball is his passion. He plays for Mar Vista 7th grade basketball team and has been playing his heart out! We are very proud of him and want him to keep pushing for greatness on & off the court."

Our next Viking Spotlight this week is for 7th grader Wolff Hoover! 🤗 Here's what the nomination says:

"Wolff has been doing chores without being asked, and even started his own car washing business around the neighborhood!"

Great job taking initiative, Wolff! Good luck with your business!

Our final Viking Spotlight of the week is 7th grader, Sierra Addleman! 🤗 Here is what the nomination says:

"Sierra earned the distinction of being named to District Honor Band and also serves on the Viking Student Council!"

Vikings, we made it to the last full week of school before Final Exams!! Can you believe it?? It seems like just yesterday we were starting school in July and now here we are wrapping up December! How do you feel about your first semester? Is there room to improve? Write down how you think you can do better next semester and then in January, set your intentions for Semester 2!

This will be our last week of Tutoring after school Monday through Thursday from 3:20-4:20pm . Also, we will have our final Saturday Academy of the semester this Saturday Dec. 9, so be sure to take advantage of the last opportunity to get academic support and/or need to clear attendance. The help is there, Vikings, we just need you to show up for it! 💛

Congratulations to our Viking Buddies Unified Kickball Team who participated in the 1st Annual Unified Kickball Tournament on Wednesday, November 29th at Bonita Vista Middle! Our team had a great time and completed in three friendly games of kickball. It's always great to see our students working together to have fund and play Unified Special Olympics activities! Way to go, Vikings!! 💛

Last Friday, all of the middle school ASB's in the district got together at Rancho Del Rey to meet new friends, play games, and learn new activities to bring back to MVA! At the end of the event, the principals even competed in a friendly game of chair ball! Proud to say that Ms. Scott represented MVA well and her team earning the victory! A great time was had by all! 💛 ASB members, thank you for all that you do for MVA's culture!

Shout out to our Vikings in the Skateboard Design class! Their skateboards are coming along great and we can't wait to see the finished products! 🛹

The results are in and Viking students voted this month's Students vs. Staff game to be dodgeball!! So come on out and play this Tuesday or just come cheer on your favorite staff member!!

High School and Middle School students are cordially invited to attend SUHSD's first BSU Winter Social event on Sunday, December 10th from 4-6pm at Sweetwater High School's Dance Room. The event is free to attend and will be a wonderful opportunity for our BSU members and African American students to get together before the holidays. There will be music, food, games, prizes, and community!

Our Adult Education department invites you to a Career Readiness workshop for parents and adult students. This workshop series will include Job search, Resume writing, Interviewing skills as well as educational programs offered through our Adult Education schools: Tuesday, November 28, December 5 and December 12, 2023, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
