Exciting Update: Transition to a 6 Period Day
Starting this fall, Easton Middle School will transition to a 6-period day schedule. This adjustment is the result of careful consideration and analysis, aimed at boosting student learning outcomes. Here’s why we believe this change will benefit our students:
Smaller Class Sizes: The 6-period day will allow us to reduce class sizes in core subjects. This means teachers can offer more individualized support and enrichment, creating a more personalized learning environment for each student.
Targeted Interventions: With dedicated periods for reading and math interventions, we can more effectively support students who need research based interventions to bridge gaps in skills and to master grade level standards. This focused approach will ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed academically. (Students who receive intervention(s) through IEPs will continue with their services even though it does not specifically list Intervention on their schedule.)
Data-Driven Approach: Our decision is grounded in extensive research and data analysis. By examining student performance metrics, teacher feedback, and educational best practices, we aim to create an optimal learning environment for every student.
Under the new schedule, Easton Middle School will no longer use A and B days. Instead, each student will have two related arts blocks and core classes each day. If a student requires reading or math intervention, it will be scheduled during one of these designated related arts blocks. Our school counselors have been meticulously reviewing each student’s schedule to ensure that required courses and necessary interventions are appropriately assigned.
We are confident that this transition to a 6-period day will positively impact our students' academic growth and overall school experience. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. If you have any questions about your student’s schedule, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child's school counselor.
Start and End Times
Instruction at EMS will start promptly at 7:50 a.m. Students must be in their 1st period class by 7:50 or they will be marked absent. Doors will still open at 7:35.
