the left side are causes and on the right side effects. Please see the attached information for uses of the multi-flow map.
Congratulations to our 2nd grade Adams Elementary students who have achieved the Accelerated Reader goal. These students have done an awesome job of ready daily and answer comprehension question about their books. Keep up the great work!!!
Students this week got to continue learning about the Arts through our Art Masters program. Students learned about Winslow Homer’s artistry and then had the opportunity to create artwork that exemplified pieces of his works. Thank you to our parents volunteers who supported in the classroom.
Last week, Mrs. Gealer’s class had the best attendance of the week. All of her students were in class 100% of the week. AMAZING work. Did you know that absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up. Here are some tips to help your student with good attendance:
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots.
- Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
- Try to schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.
- If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
- If your child must stay home due to extended, ask the teacher or office for resources and ideas to continue learning at home.
This week our 5th graders had the opportunity to visit the Planetarium at Orange Coast College. They saw a fascinating collection of meteorites, Orange County’s only Foucault pendulum, and NOAA Science on a Sphere. They saw a show in the actual planetarium and then learned about the constellations that might be seen on a night visit. Please see some of the pictures from the field trip.

Anxiety: Helping Handout for School and Home
Most children experience some level of anxiety or worry in response to unfamiliar situations and everyday stressors. Anxiety can cause significant difficulties at home and at school. These children may avoid social or public situations, have extreme difficulty separating from parents or caregivers, and have an excessive need for reassurance or approval from others. Additionally, anxious children may have difficulty concentrating and appear inattentive because they are distracted by worries and other negative thoughts (NASP). We are in this together!
We have compiled resources for you and your family. National Association of School Psychologists: Helping Handouts for Home Anxiety: Helping Hand, Mental Health and Wellness and Care Solace are tools for school staff and families to connect with community-based mental healthcare resources and providers. Their proprietary care navigation system taps into a vast database of mental healthcare resources to find carefully vetted local therapists and programs in minutes.

After School Programming
Fall Enrichment season is here! We are so excited to welcome students to our Fall Enrichment Opportunities. Thank you for giving your child or children the chance to try something new or improve their skills after school. If you didn't get a chance to enroll, it's not too late! Reach out to jeyoung@nmusd.us to find out which classes still have space available. All students who attend Adams Elementary are invited to participate - your child does not need to be a part of the PKC or ROCKs after school programs to join the fun. Reminders
- Check what the All Stars are up to. Follow us here: @adamsallstarsnmusd
- We want our students to be successful in school and for this to be achieved we need the parents support. Parents, please make sure your student does not bring any toys to school. Also, if your student has a cellphone, remind your student the cellphone cannot be used during school hours. This also includes recess and lunch time. We thank you for your cooperation!
- Early Pick Ups- If you need to pick up your student early please do so by 2:30 as we are seeing an influx of parents coming about 10 minutes before the bell to pull their student which is causing a disruption as the teachers are helping all students pack up and the turnaround is quick.
- Birthday Celebrations - Our school does not do birthday celebrations, please do not bring cake, cupcakes, or candy to celebrate birthdays. We celebrate our All Stars calling out their name at the flag deck each day to celebrate them.
