MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Franklin Students and Families,
Happy Black History Month! Staff have selected their Black and African American Heroes that are currently displayed in the front lobby of the school. I hope you are able to take some time to read the captions and learn more about them.
Students are still forecasting for their classes this week. Be sure to reach out to your counselors if you have any questions about the process or any courses.
The weather forecast is indicating chances of snow for next week. Make sure that you are receiving information from PPS about any inclement weather late starts or closures. This information will be sent out via Remind.
Have a great weekend and Go Lightning!

The Franklin Theater Department is proud to present its winter play, Puffs!
For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.
Puffs opens on Friday, March 7th and runs through Saturday, March 15th, with a 2:00 matinée on Sunday, March 9th. You can purchase your tickets by clicking this link.
Anyone who volunteers to help during a performance (students or adults) will receive a FREE ticket for another night!

SENIOR CORNER
NEW: Important Graduation Announcement
PPS is excited to announce that this year’s graduation ceremonies will be held at Portland State University’s Viking Pavilion! This venue offers indoor seating for ticketed guests and convenient, affordable parking.
However, due to limited capacity, each Franklin High School graduate is guaranteed four guest tickets. We understand that some families may need fewer tickets while others may wish to request more. To help us assess ticket availability, we ask that you have your student complete this ticket request survey. Your response will provide essential information to determine whether additional tickets can be distributed. The survey deadline is Friday, February 14th.
Important Notes:
- If no response is submitted by the February 14th deadline, four tickets will be reserved for your family.
- Only one response per student will be accepted.
- Students must use their PPS email to complete the form.
NEW: Senior Class Photo
Seniors need to make sure they attend their 2nd period classes on Wednesday February, 12th as they will be released to the grass hill 30 minutes early in front of the gym to take the Class of 2025 picture for the yearbook. Please dress warm as it will be cold.
LAST WEEK TO SUBMIT: Yearbook Phots & Quotes
Seniors, your photos and quotes are due to the yearbook staff by Friday, February 14th. The QR code in the above flyer does not work but submissions can be made here. Important note, if you do not receive an email confirmation, your submission has not been received.

TONIGHT: Celebration for Retired Basketball Coach Scott Aker
Everyone is welcome to attend a celebration to honor retired boys' basketball coach, Scott Aker, on Friday, February 7th. The meet and greet will start at 5:00pm in Room G-018 (basement of the gym building) and Coach Aker will be recognized at halftime of the boys' varsity game. Use the code word "AKER" to get into the game for free. Here is a bit of information about Coach Aker:
Scott began his varsity basketball coaching years at Franklin in the fall of 1991, after teaching and coaching basketball, volleyball, tennis and girls' golf at Milwaukie and Marshall High Schools. At Franklin he was the boys PE teacher and varsity boys basketball coach. He was also an assistant freshman football coach with Rick Holte. He coached at Franklin from 1991-1998, and served as the school's athletic director from 1994-98. He then transferred to Wilson (now Wells) from 1998-2017. He was the Wilson athletic director from 2006-2014. He retired from teaching in 2014. Scott returned to Franklin to coach the varsity boys' basketball team from 2017-2020. He was honored as the Oregon High School Basketball coach of the year for the 2018-2019 season.
