Youth Code Jam for Girls!
Learn to code with Youth Code Jam this summer at Palo Alto College’s FREE, ALL-GIRLS summer camp! Students will learn about computer science through real-world projects using art, storytelling, robotics, website design, game design, apps and about the wide range of careers in technology by meeting women in technology. The top five students of each camp session will be award scholarships to future Youth Code Jam Coding Camps and have their projects showcased in the Palo Alto College STEM Center and on the Youth Code Jam website. Lunch will be provided for all She Code Connect™ Campers.
She Code Connect™ coding camps and lunches are funded by the Texas Workforce Commission, allowing for a free summer coding experience.
Ages: Incoming 6th-8th grade students
Price: FREE (students are only able to attend one (1) out of the four (4) sessions)
Participation Requirements:
· Students must identify as female.
· Students and parents must provide end-of-year report card. This will be reviewed by camp director to confirm camp placement. Report cards should be submitted to Erron Gonzalez at egonzalez366@alamo.edu.
· Students are required to attend a minimum of four days of the session in which they are enrolled.
Session 1: Micro:bit Coding: Register
Dates: Aug. 6 – 10
Time: 8 a.m. – Noon
Students will use their arts and crafts skills to create silly characters using Micro:bits and watch them move, light up and more!
Session 2: Website Design: Register
Dates: Aug. 6 – 10
Times: 1 – 5 p.m.
Students will remix their school’s website and then have the opportunity to design their very own website!
Session 3: JavaScript Programing with Vidcode: Register
Dates: Aug. 13 – 17
Time: 8 a.m. – Noon
Students will have the opportunity to make a video with special effects using Snapchat and Instagram-inspired filters, memes and more!
Session 4: App Development: Register
Dates: Aug. 13 – 17
Times: 1 – 5 p.m.
Students will create and build a real world mobile app that may be just for fun or may solve a real problem in the world.
