New Summer Preschool Camp
What are the goals of our preschool programming in Davison?
Because of reviewing county data, our district became aware of the growing population of families of three and four year olds that were not being offered a high quality preschool program to fit the financial and scheduling needs of their family. Our goal is to change this data.
We strive to:
- Offer an adequate amount and type of preschool programs to fit the needs of our Davison population. This means more choices for families that include tuition based, state funded and federally funded programs in both 1/2 and full day options for preschool students.
- Provide strong social emotional and academic foundation for our early learners.
- Achieve Kindergarten readiness by providing *high quality preschool options for 3, 4, and young 5 students.
*High Quality preschool programming is much more that someone thinking a preschool program is high quality because it seems to be running smooth. High quality is defined by offering a state approved curriculum, that aims to teach the state of Michigan's Pre-K standards, a comprehensive school behavior climate program (PBSC), and an accredited evaluation system like the PQAand TQRIS state evaluation systems along with qualified, motivated staff.
Our district is striving to meet the high quality requirements and have added preschool options this year at the Cardinal's Nest. We have added both 3 and 4 year old full day programming and have made the commitment to offering a new summer program specifically to fit the needs of our district's preschoolers.

March is Reading Month
We had the chance to meet as a GSRP staff last Wednesday after our PD to plan our March is Reading Month activities. Consensus was that we will once again have a Family Literacy Day at GSRP. This will be held on Thursday, March 21st and counts as a parent involvement activity for PQA. I will be sending out the schedule by email later this week. The a.m. session will begin at 9:00 and the p.m. session will begin at 1:00. Students will be rotating to classrooms and doing activities that coordinate with "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie", "If you Give a Pig a Pancake" and "If you Give a Moose a Muffin". It should be a fun activity for staff, students, and parents!
We will also kick off our door decorating contest on March 8th. Each classroom team will choose a book theme of their choice to use to decorate their door. Staff will vote and the winner will be announced and receive a special prize on Thursday, March 14th. I am sending out a Google Doc sign up so that we do not duplicate book themes.
We will also have a staff guest reader exchange day where teachers sign up to read to another class at the same time and day. A schedule for that will be posted in the staff lounge.
More details to come regarding the book bus and book giveaway.
Individual classrooms will invite guest readers throughout the month. Please share your guest reader schedule in advance to readers coming in the building. Guest readers to do not need to have a volunteer clearance completed, but do need to be signed into the office.
