Colonial Park Weekly News
March 10 - March 14
Principal's Note
Dear Colonial Park Families -
It was wonderful to see so many families here last week at Parent Teacher Conferences! Thank you for taking the time to meet with your child's teacher(s) and for working together to assure their success. Also, thank you so much for voting in our Spring is in the Air Door Decorating Contest! I will be announcing our winner on Monday morning during announcements.
We are looking forward to celebrating National Reading Month with a Spirit Week starting tomorrow. Monday's theme is "Reading is Amazing," and we are encouraging staff and students to wear a favorite outfit or something that makes them feel special. This year, we have visiting author DawnMarie Capone Anzalone joining us on Thursday, March 13, and she will be sharing her book Lucy's New Bedroom with students in grades K-4. Attached to this newsletter, please find flyers for Spirit Week, with each day's theme, and Lucy's New Bedroom.
World Down Syndrome Day is marked each year on March 21 and has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The 21st day of March was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. This year, Colonial Park is going to "Rock Our Socks" to raise awareness and support for people with Down syndrome. We encourage everyone to wear fun, mismatched, colorful, crazy socks on Friday, March 21.
Just a reminder, this Friday, March 14, is an Early Release Day for all Stoneham Public Schools students. Our preschoolers will be dismissed at 11:40, and students in grades K-4 will be dismissed at 12:00. I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Best,
Rosa Flynn
Parking Lot Safety
Please drive slowly when traveling through the Colonial Park parking lot. I have had multiple caregivers and staff members comment on vehicles driving too fast during these busy times. There is nowhere to go that is more important than the safety of our children.
Also, please do not double park during pickup. It is not possible to safely navigate through our parking lot if vehicles are double parked.
Thank you for your cooperation.

*Girls on the Run - registration is now open for our Spring Girls on the Run Team! Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program dedicated to empowering girls in grades 3-4 through engaging, dynamic lessons and physical activity. Girls on the Run inspires girls to build confidence, set goals and use their voice to become leaders.
The team will meet every Monday and Thursday from 2:45 to 4:15, from March 31 to June 2. Each day targets specific life skills (competence, confidence, connection, character and caring). Girls on the Run has implemented a new curriculum, “Hello, Mountain Mover!” which focuses on building confidence to do hard things. The big culminating event is a celebratory, non-competitive 5K which will take place on the Boston Common. Over the course of the program, the girls set running goals which help prepare them for crossing the finish line!
