COR Expedition
Dear Saints parents and students,
I chaperoned the COR Expedition last summer and it was the trip of a lifetime. It involves 5 days of camping and hiking in Wyoming mountain country. We saw waterfalls and wildlife, we swam in rivers and snow-fed lakes, we had snow-ball fights in the still-frozen snow from last winter, and we camped in tents under diamond-like stars (one student counted nine shooting stars in one night!).
COR provides 2-3 extremely qualified trip guides, and they do an excellent job. COR also provides a Faith component of the adventure so that students can connect with the Creator as they are immersed in His creation. Father Caraway will be attending as chaplain, along with the COR guides and 2 faculty chaperones.
Check out the COR website, watch this video from summer 2024, and if you are interested, please email hguth@slchs.org as soon as possible (no later than 2/1/25). We must have a group of 10-13 students to send, or the trip will get cancelled. Please consider giving this incredible opportunity to your child.
Thanks and God bless,
Ms. Guth

Families are encouraged to schedule vacations that coincide with school holidays. Any absence for a trip or vacation must be prearranged with the school administration and is not guaranteed to be excused. Please review the attendance policies in Section IV (p. 19-22) of the handbook.
Uniform Policy
With this week's cold weather, we have had many conversations with students about what they can wear and what they can't. Parents refer to our hand book for dress code specifics, but below are some clarifications:
- sweatpants are not allowed in place of leggings.
- If a student needs to wear extra layers, Southern Drifter has all the uniform needs and outerwear for our students.
- If a student needs additional layers Monday - Thursday, they may wear a "hoodie" under the uniform shirt and approved outerwear so we can ensure that they do in fact have a uniform shirt on (happens more than you think).
- Spirit outwear, including but not limited to athletic warm ups and club/organization sweatshirts, may be worn ONLY on FRIDAYS.

Residency at the Museum - Featuring SAINTS!
Robbie Austin SLC '90, Bit Thompson SLC '10, and Lyd Walls have an art exhibit opening Thursday, January 16 from 6-8 pm at the Imperial Calcasieu Museum (204 W. Sallier Street).
The show celebrates the conclusion of the artist's nine month Residency at the Museum. The evening will include a Gallery Talk and coincide with a History of Mardi Gras exhibit. There will be a King Cake tasting featuring local bakeries.
- Robbie: Capturing local nostalgia, Robbie's work reflects his deep ties to Lake Charles and its history. "This residency invokes nostalgia and calls forth artistic ambitions that need to be realized within walking distance of Charlie's Lake."
- Bit: Transitioning from photography to textile art, Bit explores the interplay of light, shadow, and texture. "My current work has been an exploration of the very two-dimensional element of a line and using it in a more three-dimensional way."
- Lyd: Known for exploring themes of growth, vulnerability, and authenticity, Lyd is embracing new artistic directions of experimentation by mixing mediums, hues, and textures.
The event is free and open to the public...especially SAINTS!
Parent Guild
Parent Guild will be hosting a Saints Spirit Night at Crying Eagle! A percentage of all sales on Tuesday, January 28th will benefit SLCHS Parent Guild. Evening entertainment provided by SLCHS Show Choir.
