Kolmar Winter Craft Wonderland

On Friday, December 1st, the Kolmar PTA hosted their annual winter craft night. This year was a little different. Thanks to our local Home Depot and some crafty Kolmar parents, each family that signed up for winter craft night received a wooden snowman to decorate!

Future Bulldogs and Spartans!

On Friday, November 17th, our 8th grade OLHMS students had an amazing opportunity to gain more insight about their future high school. Students who are in district to attend Richards High School visited HLR and students who are in district to attend Oak Lawn Community High School visited OLCHS.

Growing Greener with Hydroponics

Thanks to the Illinois Retired Teachers Association Foundation (IRTAF) and Dr. Mike Loftin, Assistant Superintendent of Business, OLHMS is the recipient of a brand new hydroponics system! Hydroponics is the technique of growing plants using a water-based nutrient solution rather than soil. By studying hydroponics, students will learn about plant biology and agriculture in a controlled environment.

Cougar Code Breakfast Winners!

On Friday, December 1st several students at our school were nominated for exemplifying the cougar code by being respectful, responsible and safe. These students have shown exceptional character and have made a positive impact on our school community. To honor their achievements, they were rewarded with a special breakfast before school, where they were able to celebrate with their families.

ELearning and Emergency Day Information

With the winter months here, Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 discussed the current Elearning plan for inclement weather during the December 6 District-Wide Late Start meetings. The community should always assume that in-person learning is in session on normal schedules unless otherwise notified.

A Merry and Bright December

This December is packed with many noteworthy events that culminate with Winter Break starting 12/22. Starting on Monday, December 11, Hannum will have a calendar of events to make the next two weeks quite eventful.

The Tornado of 1967

On April 21, 1967, there was an unbelievable tornado outbreak and severe weather event that occurred across the Midwest. The hardest hit towns included Belvidere and Oak Lawn. Now referred to as 'Black Friday,' it was the largest tornado outbreak of 1967 and one of the most outstanding to ever occur in the Chicago area.
