Lansdowne High School Happenings
Community School Updates October 2024
October News
LHS has been a busy place in the past month. Here are some Viking highlights:
😃 Our Hispanic Student Union did a wonderful job finding creative ways to recognize our Hispanic students' culture and traditions throughout Hispanic Heritage Month. Some of the featured events included cumbia dance lessons, arts and crafts, trivia during our morning announcements, and music to welcome students into the building. Students also shared their reasons for being proud of their Hispanic heritage on signs hung throughout the building.
🎓 Two new cohorts of students were inducted into our AVID program this month. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and provides students with opportunities to engage with a rigorous curriculum, hear from guest speakers and participate in college visits. Last week, AVID juniors and seniors visited the NACAC National College Fair in Baltimore.
🍎 Alumni enjoyed walking down Memory Lane at our recent Open House. There will be several more opportunities to visit the building before we open at our new school location in the fall of 2026. The next Open House will take place on Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
💼 LHS was host to the 9th annual Southwest Area Futures Fair where colleges, universities, trade schools, unions, military recruiters and other post-secondary options were on hand to share information with students. Over 40 organizations participated! Students from LHS, Woodlawn HS, Catonsville HS, and Western Tech attended the event.
Support Your Community School
Your Feedback Matters!
As a new Community School we are in the process of collecting data to identify our community needs. The goal is to gather feedback from all stakeholders, including community partners. Please take 5-10 minutes to complete the Needs Assessment Survey and share your impressions so we can use this data to better serve our Lansdowne community members and families. THANK YOU!

Helping Families in Need
We are in the process of organizing our Holiday Help for families. If you or your business or organization would like to sponsor a family, please reach out. We are hoping to support a record number of our Lansdowne student families this season. Email: jcarey2@bcps.org if you would like to get involved.
If you want to show your support with a food donation, we are collecting boxes of stuffing for holiday food baskets. Drop off your donation in the main office at LHS by December 1.
Vikings in Action
Student "Spoiler" Alert
Our community partners have been busy celebrating the successes of our student athletes. Chick-fil-A Lansdowne Station provided a little pre-game pump up to recognize our varsity football players and the cheerleaders who have three wins in so far this season. Even the cow wore a Viking helmet for the event.
Bakery Express proved that "Victory is Sweet" when they showered our badminton team with donuts and brownies. The sweet treats fueled another team win that afternoon making the team record 8-0.
We appreciate how our partners spoil our student athletes and make them feel special.
