SAFE AND CARING SCHOOLS
GSACRD Voice
Fear is a natural emotion that can help us respond to danger, but it can also lead to anxiety and stress if not managed properly. When we feel fear, our bodies experience changes like increased heart rate and heightened senses, which prepare us for action.
Tips for Managing Fear
Mindfulness: Practice deep breathing or meditation to calm your mind.
Gradual Exposure: Face your fears gradually to build confidence.
Talk About It: Share your fears with trusted friends or professionals.
Challenge Negative Thoughts: Write down and reframe your fear-related thoughts.
Stay Active: Engage in physical activities to boost your mood and reduce stress.
Check out this Big Life Journal Article on a powerful tool called “Emotional Freedom Technique” (or EFT) for combating negative emotions like anxiety through tapping a series of acupressure points on the face and upper body with two fingers whilst voicing our issue. This helps to “short-circuit” the fight or flight (stress) response and re-wire our brain to think more clearly about the stress. By understanding and managing fear, you can take control of your emotional well-being. Remember, fear is a part of life, but you have the tools to navigate it!
Student Services Nutrition Support
Here at MCHS we are lucky to have grant funding to support our students' nutritional needs. Fresh fruit is available for all students to take when they require a snack to keep them going for the day. We also have a toast program, and various food events throughout the year that all students are welcome to participate in.
In addition, Students Services carries extra snacks and soup for our students who have food security challenges at home. We want to ensure that all students have the nutrition required to do their best at school, recognizing that families have different levels of need. If you think your learner may benefit from extra nutrition support at school, due to food access challenges at home, please contact Corinna Cormier at ccormier@gsacrd.ab.ca or by phone at 780-9396891 so that they can be added to our Nutritional Support List. Being on this list will allow your learner to access extra nutritional support at the school, ensuring that our resources are reaching the students who need it most.

Beautiful Bits Of The Bible
Psalm 33:8–10, NIV
Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
