Parking Lot Updates π
As many of you know we had Sheriffs on campus last week to get to know students and answer questions as part of their SHIELD (community outreach) program. They had the chance to be present for pick up and ended up giving some parking violation tickets. They asked we remind parents that there is NO PARKING in fire lanes (marked with the red curb), handicap spaces (unless you have this authorization), and loading zones (marked with the yellow curb).
Everyone can help with improving our parking lot experience by using the two circles for dropping off and picking up students. This helps keep parking spaces open for staff and volunteers. Working toward building independence with students walking between their class and car in one of the circles is very helpful. Thank you to those of you who are doing this! I am seeing more and more students move to this - even many 1st graders.
Thank you SCHIELD! π
Students enjoyed getting to know the El Dorado County Sheriffs on campus with the SCHIELD program last week. You can find more information on this program at this site.
Staff Favorite Things π
Sometimes parents will want a list of a staff members favorite things to celebrate a birthday or show appreciation. We have a binder in the office with a list for each staff member who has completed one. Stop by anytime if you would like a copy of a staff members favorites.
Emergency Information π¨
This year all of the "first day packet" information will be collected through Alma, our new student information system. This process has been made available to parents now and we ask that parents complete this task as soon as possible so we have current information. Please review these Slides for a tutorial on how to log in and complete the required information in Alma.

- π΄ Buckeye Food Services - Information regarding Food Services can be viewed here.
- π Birthday Marquee - Interested in celebrating your child's birthday with marquee recognition or library book donation? Ask the office for more information on these birthday celebrations.
Attendance Questions Answered
1. What is considered an Excused Absence?
By law [EC Β§ 48205], excused absences are: illness [(fever 100Β° or more, persistent runny nose (not allergy related), vomiting, diarrhea, medical/dental appointments (doctorβs note required for verification)], death in the family, specific religious reasons, required appearance in court, and exclusion from school for contagious disease.
2. What can I do if my child needs to be out of school for a length of time?
If your child must go out of town for three (3) or more days, you may request that your child is signed up for an Independent Study Contract. Please note that teachers need at least one weekβs notice in order to prepare materials without interrupting their instructional time.
3. I called in to verify my child's absence; why am I still getting truancy letters?
Unless the absence was for an excused reason (those stated in point #1), the absence is considered unexcused and truancy letters will be sent in accordance with Education Code of the State of California [EC Β§ 48260-48273]. Ed Code states that any pupil who is absent from school for 3 days or more without a valid excuse (reasons specified in point #1), or tardy in excess of 30 minutes or more, is considered truant.
