Cedar Grove Friday Flash
September 27, 2024
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
Prekindergarten and Head Start registration is still open for income-eligible families. If your child was four years of age on or before September 1, 2024, you may still register your child for Prekindergarten/Head Start for the remainder of this school year. Please click on this link for more information.
Sometime during the school year, your child may have a medication prescribed for treatment of a health problem. Medications should generally be given at home, but in the event that your child needs to receive medication during the school day, there is a process that must be followed. Please click this link, Administration of Medication to Students, to view this process from our school nurse. If you have any questions, please contact the school health room.
Every year we support breast cancer awareness by wearing pink on Wednesdays in October. It is a community event that promotes empathy and togetherness. Our first Pink Out Wednesday will be on October 2. We encourage you to take pictures of your pinked-out students and send them to Mrs. Hirschhorn who will compile all the photos into a video. You may watch videos from previous years here.
Our families are invited to Family Movie Night at Damascus High School (DHS). The DHS Drama Club is hosting a screening of Coco in the DHS Auditorium on Friday, October 11th. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the film will start at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free; however, donations to benefit the performing arts at Damascus HS will gladly be accepted. All students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The presentation will end by 8:15, and students are required to have rides waiting at that time. Please email Mr. Kachadorian at Steven_R_Kachadorian@mcpsmd.org with any questions.
Open House is an opportunity to welcome our community and continue to build the positive relationships with our stakeholders. We would like to extend an invitation for parents who would like to attend our parent visitation/Open House on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 9:30 until 11:00 and again from 2:00 until 3:00. Parents are welcome to come and visit their child's classroom, but please do not bring siblings during this time. During Open House, the blacktop will be open for parking; however, vehicles will need to be removed from the blacktop by 11:15 as students will be going out to recess. We hope to see you at our Open House!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Annual Integrated Pest Management Notice
Maryland Law requires that school staff and parents/guardians of all students be notified prior to planned pesticide applications in the school or on school grounds, or within 24 hours of an emergency application. Without exception, notices will be sent to all parents/guardians and school staff members. For additional information, please click this link.
Annual Notification of Asbestos Management Plan
The federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) of 1986 requires local education agencies to inspect their schools for asbestos-containing building material (ACM) and prepare management plans to prevent or reduce asbestos hazards. Asbestos Management Plans have been prepared for all MCPS facilities. These plans outline the location and condition of ACM based on inspections of the facilities. MCPS records indicate that Cedar Grove is not likely to contain asbestos. However, federal regulations for the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act require that an annual notice be shared with the community at all schools. The Asbestos Abatement Unit conducts semi-annual surveys of each facility with ACM to assess the condition of the material and to identify necessary remedial work. The inspection results are kept on file with the Asbestos Management Plans. For more information, please click on the links below.
CKLA Parent/Caregiver Hub
Parents/Caregivers can access and engage with grade-level resources on the CKLA Hub. These online tools are the same as on the Student Hub, allowing parents/caregivers to explore student programs and support their child(ren) at home. It is accessible using a laptop, Chromebook, tablet, desktop, and mobile device. To access the hub, click here and enter your child's grade specific login information.
