The RSAA Weekly Parent/Community Update
Against the Odds
I will always root for the underdog. Why? Somehow, someway it has been determined that an individual or a group of individuals will not achieve something because of a "criteria" that is just settled upon by time, opportunity and circumstance. I will never, ever encourage a child to just settle for how things are at the moment. There is too much at stake in life and in the growth of each of us as individuals to settle.
So what can I do? I can make sure that we are providing as well-rounded an experience for students to be able to access, develop and apply skills that will be of benefit in everyday life. We strive to provide purpose to everything we do so that ALL of our students, whether the odds are against them or not, have the opportunity to learn. That means we have some things to navigate through, probably the biggest being how an individual functions in the greater community of our school.
We have gotten away from that in many facets of life, teaching appropriate interactions and responses in situations, and that is something we spend a great deal of time focusing attention because it is needed and has a place in the development of students. If a student is to beat the odds, they have to master the room. We are working the mastery each and everyday because we want your child to succeed. It is going to come with phone calls and growing pains and learning from mistakes and failing forward.
We have all been in situations where we are, in a sense, the underdog. Some of us might still be in that situation and what can we do? Work as hard as we can to make weakness strength and to rise above the assumption of how we will end up.
I am a fan of all of our students. We have kids that overcome challenges everyday and we have kids that we are going to work with to overcome challenges. I will never settle for the odds and we, as a school community, will work to provide the best environment and support for our students possible.
Thank you for your partnership!
SCHOOL PICTURES
Picture Day is October 9th
More information will be coming home as we get closer to the date!
FREE DENTAL AND VISION SCREENINGS AND SERVICES THIS SPRING!
We are fortunate to be able to offer FREE dental and vision screening and services this spring. Last year we only did dental and now we have the ability to offer vision as well. Your child will be bringing home a letter and forms for you to fill out relative to these services. YOUR STUDENT IS NOT REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE.
Thank you ahead of time for your prompt attention to getting these forms filled out and turned into the school.
Car Pick-Up Reminder
As I shared at Open House. You must call in before 2:00 if you will pick up your child as a car rider. We have several buses and after school events we navigate with children at the end of the day and we do not want any students lost in the fast pace of the end of the day. Telling your student to tell the teacher or texting the teacher is not acceptable for this as Mrs. Jones creates the list and she needs to be notified through a simple phone call.
Thank you
Absence Reminder
If your child does not have a doctor's note for an absence, a hand-written note is required to be on file. Please write a note explaining your child's absence and send it in with them when they return to school.
Thank you
Drop Off and Pick Up
You may drop your student off at the THEATER ENTRANCE beginning at 7:30 AM. The best way to get to this interest is to enter the east interest closest to Buckeye Glass and to slowly drive up the lane and pull in front of the double doors. Staff will man those doors until 8:15 and then students will be required to buzz into the office entrance. DRIVE SLOWLY through the parking lot to exit and be aware of other cars and buses that will be coming and going. Car riders cannot be dropped off at the bus entrance.
When you pick your child up you will enter the west entrance in the afternoon, pull up the lane that goes between the building and the playground area and follow the sign around the building and students will be dismissed from the CAFE entrance. You will have teachers that will be releasing your students to you. DRIVE SLOWLY and stay alert for children and teachers.
Absences and Tardies
Please remember that a student is considered tardy after 8:15 AM unless they are a bus rider on a bus that has not arrived. If your child is going to be absent, please notify the office no later than 10:00 AM and send your child with a note the day they return.
Enrollment Openings
We still have a few openings in some grade levels. Please let your family/friends know if they are still looking for a great school option for their students.
Enrollment Reminders
Transportation: Please make sure your bus information is in to your district of residence. Usually they will require proof of residency to transport and this needs to be turned into the transporting district bus garage. Mansfield City Schools will not transport your student until they have that information. If you have moved or changed phone numbers, the bus garage has to have these changes as soon as possible as they begin finalizing bus routes.
Information Changes: Please have any changes to residency and contact numbers to Mrs. Jones. We need to keep information current so we can have an open line of communication with our families.

School Breakfast Reminder
We will be adjusting where we serve breakfast in the mornings. All breakfast will be served in the cafeteria. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 - 8:30 and then the cafeteria will close to prepare for lunch. The only exception for students to be in the cafeteria will be in the instance of a late bus drop-off as parents/students do not have control over the timeliness of routes.
School Dress Code
Please look at the changes to our uniform policy. We have expanded colors that can be worn as well as types of sweatshirt/sweater tops. We will clarify this at Open House as well if there are any questions.
