MVMS Important Dates,Updates,& FAQ
Week of November 18th- November 22nd, 2024
Greetings MVMS Wildcat Families & Students~
We have five full days of school this week before we head into Thanksgiving Break next week (no school). We continue to focus on our November Character Trait of Kindness and recognize students for meeting our school wide expectations and demonstrating kindness with positive behavior referrals and Wildcat Cash they can spend on Fridays at the Wildcat Exchange Store during lunch times. Kindness and gratitude are important themes for November and December.
We are about 3 weeks away from the end of the trimester, this is a great time to check ParentVue and StudentVue for missing assignments and summative assessments that can be re-taken/submitted for credit. Please reach out to teachers in class, before school or after school, or through email etc. if there are any questions or concerns. Counselors and administrators are also able to provide help and support.
We want all students to be successful and finish the first trimester strong!

UPDATES
YOUTHTRUTH FAMILY SURVEY CLOSES NOVEMBER 22ND
Greetings MVMS Parents and Guardians:
It is that time of year that we ask our MVMS community to participate in the Youth Truth Survey! Youth Truth is a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the country – to conduct anonymous surveys to collect stakeholder feedback.
Mountain View Middle School is asking for your participation in this survey. We value parent and guardian perspectives and know that stakeholder feedback can have a positive impact not only on the climate and culture of our school but also on a range of elements related to student achievement, including attendance, discipline and social/emotional learning.
The survey opens on October 28th, 2024. Please take a moment to complete the family survey before it closes at midnight on November 22nd, 2024 by clicking this link: ytsurvey.org/newbergfamily24
Here are some important things to note when taking the survey:
The survey needs to be completed in one sitting.
We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.
If you write any comments, please do not include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.
We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.
We will also be surveying our staff and students in the month of November. If you would like to OPT out your child, please fill in this form.
If you have any questions on how this anonymous survey will be used, please contact Holly Miele at mieleh@newberg.k12.or.us.

What is MVM'S Mission & Vision for the 2024-2025 School Year?
This year our mission at Mountain View Middle School is to deepen our partnership with all our families and our community. We are committed to educate all students to achieve their full potential. Our SITE Council will be highlighting our goals and data throughout the year but wanted to tell you about two of our goals this year that align with our Newberg Dundee School District's Strategic Plan in literacy and attendance.
- LITERACY: Each of our classrooms (Humanities, Dual Language, Math, Sciences, PE/Health, Electives, etc.) are highlighting literacy this year as we know that foundational core literacy skills such as reading, writing and speaking are critical to a student's success in all speaking, listening and areas in school. All teachers are focusing on informational text.
- Ways You Can Help At Home:
- Engage in conversations
- Offer books, magazines etc.
- Go to the Newberg Public Library.
- Talk about school, or current events.
- Ask them what they are reading and discuss the books.
- Have a lot of age-appropriate and grade-level reading material around your home.
- Model good literacy behavior by reading regularly yourself.
- ATTENDANCE: Our school goal is 95%, this is a new month and we are at about 92.9% for the month of November already.
- Ways You Can Help At Home:
- Ensure your child goes to school every day unless they are truly sick
- Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.
- Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your child feels anxious about going to school.
- Work with teachers and counselors to develop a plan to support academics, social, emotional needs.
- Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.
IMMUNIZATION SHOT RECORDS
Please be mindful if you have received a letter in the mail or an email reminding you that your child will need to update their Immunization Shots. These do need to be done before December 20th.
