Almond Thursday Word
12/12/19
Note from the Principal
Dear Almond Families:
We had a festive and fun Winter Concert performance from our 4th, 5th and 6th graders yesterday! Thank you to our district music teachers: Joe Chan, Corrie Dunn, Rachel Slotnick, Jason Braun and Joanna Dahl for all of the work you put into music learning for our Almond kiddos. And thank you to our greater Almond Ohana for supporting LAEF, which provides funds to support the music program that our upper grade Almond students enjoy.
Here’s to the power of a supportive learning community!

Almond Singers
The Almond Singers Chorus had a great Winter Holiday Concert for the school last Wednesday, December 4, and registration is now open for the 2019 Spring Semester (Jan-May)! Enrollment is open for students in grades 2-6, and costs $75 for the Spring Semester. This Spring, the Almond Singers will once again participate in the LASD Choral Showcase in early April, and perform two spring concerts at Almond. Practices are held every Tuesday at 7:30am in the Almond Multi, and resume on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Please email Margaret Barnett, Almond Singers Director, at margaretmbarnett@gmail.com to register your child. Happy Holidays!
Your donation to LAEF will be DOUBLED during the holidays!
We have a Challenge Match.
A group of LASD families has offered to match every dollar donated before December 31st, up to a total of $50,000.
Donate to LAEF now and make twice the impact!
Funding an excellent public education is only possible with your support.
Once you’ve made your donation to LAEF, be sure to request a corporate match, if it’s possible. Find out if your company offers corporate matching.
We still need to raise over $700,000 to reach our 2019-20 goal of $3.4 million to fully fund teachers at our neighborhood schools.
Let's bring in the New Year with strong support for our students!

Bakers needed for Staff Appreciation Cookie Exchange
The Almond Teachers and Staff Cookie Exchange is next week on Wednesday, 12/8. Every year, Almond parents bake for our lovely teachers and staff members so that they can have a variety of cookies to take home for the holidays. We'll need 135 *dozen* cookies of various types to make this happen!
Please sign up to bake or buy/bring as many dozen cookies as you'd like and bring to the staff lounge on Wednesday, 12/18, at 8:30 AM during drop off. During that day, the teachers and staff will be able to choose cookies for them to take home. At the end of the school day, please come by and pick up your empty trays to take home.
Please sign up for the 2019 cookie exchange here:[goog_160332148] http://bit.ly/CookiesExchange. If you have questions please reach out to Linda Lin or Peipei Yu. Thank and happy holidays from the Teacher Appreciation Committee!
