HPISD Financial Report Art Contest: Due October 25
HPISD is still accepting submissions for the cover of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Students from all grade levels are encouraged to participate by submitting their artwork for consideration. The winner will have their artwork featured on the cover of the audit report and will be recognized at a board meeting.
Submission Guidelines:
- 2D painting or drawing
- Vertical orientation, 8.5x11 inches
- HPISD Theme: Artwork should reflect or highlight HPISD

Highland Park High School
HPHS Theatre: Anastasia
HPHS Theatre is excited to present its fall musical, Anastasia! The musical follows the journey of a young woman, Anya, who suffers from amnesia. Set against the backdrop of post-revolutionary Russia, rumors spread that Anastasia, the last surviving daughter of the Romanov family, may still be alive. Shows are October 24-26 at 7:00 pm and October 27 at 2:00 pm. Tickets will be available online at hpscotstheatre.org and at the door. Anastasia is directed by Brittany Murphy, with choreography by Armoni Adamson and scenic design and technical direction by Joseph Burnam. Come out and support these talented and hardworking students!
HPHS Theatre: Tech Theatre
HPHS tech theater students are putting in great effort to create set pieces and props for Anastasia: The Musical! Students participate in technical theatre in class with Mr. Burnam, and also make up the crew for all of our HPHS theatre performances.
Highlander Band: Burleson Regional
Congratulations to the Highlander Band for their incredible performance at the US Bands Burleson Regional competition and for earning the following awards in their division:

Best Music
Best Overall Effect
Best Percussion
And 7th place overall! Many top marching bands from the DFW area competed in the US Bands Burleson Regional competition and we are so proud of the Highlander Band for these amazing results!

HPMS Choir: Trip to Hyer!
The MIS Pop Choir performed for Hyer Elementary 4th grade students on October 10th. The Hyer Huskies loved this performance!

Elementary Campuses
Armstrong Elementary: Preschool Music
The Armstrong Preschool class is learning to play the glockenspiel. We explored high and low sounds, discussed mallet technique, and played the tonic note while singing a song.
Armstrong Elementary: Kindergarten Music
Armstrong Kindergartners are exploring playing the Orff instruments on the steady beat using hands together, playing the rhythm using alternating hands, and performing a glissando as they learn about high and low sounds.
Armstrong Elementary: 4th Grade Music
Armstrong Fourth Graders are excited to have begun learning to play the recorder. Students must correctly play songs to earn their Recorder Karate belts. Every student is striving to earn their Recorder Black Belt by the end of the school year.
Hyer Elementary: Music
The MIS Pop Choir performed for Hyer Elementary 4th grade students on October 10th. Our students loved this performance!
University Park Elementary: Music
UP Panthers are making music! Students are using various mediums to learn musical skills, including playing Orff instruments, playing the Steady Beat game, and using counting cubes to create pictures of higher and lower pitches of known songs.
